What is Children's day all about?
Children's day celebration based on my understanding is a day especially for the children to showcase their talents in acting, talk show competition, showcasing their culture, dancing like I saw some children today dressed traditionally for the celebration, it's a time for children to express themselves I mean a full day set aside for playing and enjoyment, it's also a time when they go sightseeing like the zoo, swimming in the pool like my elder sister took her children (my nieces and nephews) for outing and swimming, etc.

I will also say it is a time where children show how free-spirited they are because it's children's celebration they are not restricted from doing what they want unless they go out of bound.
Origin
The earliest celebration of Children’s Day can be traced back to the United States of America in 1857, where a certain Pastor Charles Leonard held a service for children at his church. Locally, the service became known as Children’s Day.
After then, similar celebrations to celebrate children began to occur in different parts of the world..source

International Children’s Day was first marked in Turkey on April 23, 1920. Later, on June 1, 1925, during the World Conference on the Welfare of Children, International Children’s Day was declared..source
Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20
The idea of a Universal Children’s Day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1954.
In the year 1959, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on that same day while the official decree on the protection of children’s rights was established on November 20, 1989..source
Children’s Day differs from country to country
Though the United Nations set November 20 aside for the Children’s day celebration, the day is celebrated on different dates in different countries.
May 27 is traditionally the Children’s Holiday in Nigeria. China celebrates Children’s Day on June 1 while Japan celebrates theirs on May 5 and Britain celebrates theirs on August 20
Several social activities are carried out on Children’s Day, varying from excursions, parties, funfairs, parades, etc.source

Lessons learnt from children
I've learnt that children can easily forgive you when you offend them
Children are carefree, they love cartoon movies especially "Moana" and "Tom and Jerry ", they love playing ps games too especially the boys. They also like cycling bicycles even the girls alike.
Unlike the adult, you can convince them to do what you want them to do by buying them gifts mind you, I mean children here not teenagers.

Gifts that delights a child
The gift a child will accept is dependent on two factors:
the age of the child.
the child's living condition, environment and parenting.
For instance, a child that is from a wealthy family may not appreciate it when given a bicycle but might even love chocolate or a PlayStation set but a middle-class child will appreciate and love the gift and even show off with it to his or her friends like when my sister got a bicycle for her children.
so also, a boy of ages between 2 and 5 will happily joyfully accept a toy gun, toy car but a ten years old will prefer video game or laptop.
likewise, a girl between the ages of 2 and 5 will happily accept a baby doll but an older girl will love a dress, a shoe etc.
furthermore, both parties may prefer chocolate, baked cake and a little party where their peers are invited for a celebration in their honour.
Conclusion
Children loves playing and freedom so they enjoy 27th May, very much in Nigeria.
For gifting in conclusion, i will say that parents should not assume what their wards may appreciate, especially when you are not a very close friend of your children. But give them the opportunity to say what they want or ask discreetly in order not to make wrong choice in gifts.
