INTRODUCTION

Greetings my fellow Steemians, I believe you are glowing awesomely and your day went well. I welcome you to my blog and today, I will be sharing my diary activity which is my participation in the NYSC Corps Employers Workshop held at Aba North Council of Abia State, Nigeria. It was a programme set up to profit all the NYSC stakeholders adequately

INVITATION TO THE WORKSHOP

As the president of my community development service (CDS) group, I was mandated to be present in the meeting by my NYSC Zonal Coordinator. I started off to the meeting from my lodge alone and coincidentally met few corp members as I got closer to the venue.

INTRODUCTION OF DIGNITARIES

The meeting began at about 11:00 am (Nigerian Time) with NYSC anthem. The dignitaries present in the meeting were introduced just after the anthem amongst which was the Director General of NYSC South East Region represented by Mr. Eze Christopher.

THE CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH

The chairman gave an opening speech which is on the following highlights:

  1. The programme is for the exchange of ideas between the employers and corp members to enhance the service of NYSC.
  2. Achieving the NYSC aim of unity can only be gained by a collaborative effort from all stakeholder.
  3. Feedback from all partied will be used to enhance the scheme.

The chairman also mentioned the impact of the corp members while Nigeria as a nation was on lockdown, and they are:

  1. Mass production of face masks.
  2. Distribution of hand sanitizers and soaps to the public.
  3. Distribution of parliatives to the public.
  4. Sensitisation of the public on the preventive measures to hamper the spread of COVID 19 from spreading.

On the other hand, he also pointed out the shortcomings of the employers, viz:

  1. Delayed application/not applying for corp members.
  2. Increased rejection of corp members in their firms.
  3. Underutilization of corp members.
  4. Lack of providing for the needs of corp members and their security; and so on.

The chairman concluded by informing everyone that the deliberation would be done in groups and after which the resolutions made would be taken into consideration.

GROUPS DELIBERATION AND RESOLUTIONS

The participants were grouped into three syndicates and the following are the resolutions of each syndicate:

SYNDICATE 1:

  1. Employers should provide accomodation for corp members.
  2. A minimum of ₦7,000 should be given to each corp member by the employer monthly.
  3. Public schools should pay corp members according to their capability.

SYNDICATE 2:

  1. Employers should take corp members as their staff and treat them well.
  2. Corp members should inform their employers their medical history as they get to their firm.
  3. Corp members should be posted to their area of specialization for maximum productivity.

SYNDICATE 3:

  1. The security of corp members at their place of assignment should be the employers priority.
  2. The posting ratio of singles to the married should be balanced to improve productivity of corp members.
  3. Corp members should be sensitized adequately not to feel superior to their employers.

ADOPTION OF THE RESOLUTIONS

After the deliberation, there was a refreshment as the resolutions were being read and adopted accordingly. The meeting ended at about 2:00 pm (Nigerian Time) and it was a huge success.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I exchanged pleasantries with my fellow corp members and took a few shots with them. Indeed, the workshop was so impactful.
