Happy day you my friends and fellow Steemians. How are you and your precious family members? I am wishing you a merry day ahead. I want to address a topic that is of great concern to us and our family members. It's titled avoidable crime.

Introduction

Many of us are concern about security and stability of our environment. This is because a secured environment brings about wealth and prosperity for our families and the economy. But crime distorts the progression of economic development.

Crime has been defined as "an action or omission which constitutes an offence and is punishable by law".

The rate of crime has skyrocketed to the highest proportion in this time of our human existence. One can rarely sleep with our two eyes closed. The worst part of this scenario is that they youth who are referred to as the "leaders of tomorrow" are grossly ingrained in it. what a bleak future they have ahead of them!

We can not completely prevent crime, however, there are some measures we can put in place to avoid the "avoidable" ones.

Common Measures To prevent Crime.

1. Avoid Keeping keys Outside The House;
   Firstly, the first responders to crime prevention is we ourselves. How secure are our doors, keys, padlocks and our burglary proof? Do we live our keys outside the house when we are out of the house? That is a breach to our security, because there can/might be someone somewhere who might have seen us hiding it.

2. Avoid Keeping Valuables Near Windows;
   Do we have a table close to the windows? we do well not to keep any values like phones or keys nearer to our windows. It's a flashpoint for burglary.

3. Keep Your Security Lights In Good Condition; well-lighted environment is a big scare to criminals. So repair all your security lights and switches and keep them on at night.

4. Don't Walk Alone In A Lonely Street;
   Hoodlums thrive on lonely and deserted streets or roads. Make sure you walk in groups or when the street is busy.

5. Limit Some Information on Social Media;
   The social media is one of the best inventions of our modern era. with it we communicate and share/post information and pictures. we keep in touch with( lost) friends and family. However, most crimes committed were linked to information given out on social media. Some people virtually live their lives on social media. They share critical information which might be what kidnappers look for. Avoid making friends with complete strangers. Monitor what and whom your children chat with or communicate with on social media to protect them from pedophiles.

6. Limit Wearing Expensive Cloths And Jewelry In Some Environmental;
   The choice to wear clothes and jewelry is a personal decision. However with the high surge of crime. It is advised to put on simple and clean clothes than risking your life by wearing very expensive clothes and jewelries thereby attracting the attention of of criminal.

7. Keep Valuables Out Of Sight When Driving;
   During a traffic jam, keep your valuables in side the pigeonhole of your car or in the booth. Criminal elements try to assess any seen asset and would attack if they catch any glimpse of your valuables.

It is advisable to wind up. Or wind down a little if your car is not fully air-conditioned.

There are other things you can do to prevent "avoidable" crimes. Some scenarios painted here might not be practical in certain environment nor am I insisting that this should be applied verbatim. This write up should serve as an awakening call on the need to keep you and your family safe. Don't forget to report any strange observation to the police. They are better trained to handle crime. Know your emergence call codes too.

Conclusion

We live in a time the Bible described as "critical times hard to deal with." ( 2 Timothy 3:1) The Crime rate is soaring high. And because the people of the "third world" rarely invest in crime prevention and human development, we will be continually affected by crime.

We need to do our best and leave the rest by trying as much as possible to prevent some avoidable crimes. Thank you.
