INTRODUCTION

What is tailoring?
According to google definition of tailoring Source
Tailoring is the art of designing, cutting, fitting, and finishing clothes. The word tailor comes from the French tailler, to cut, and appears in the English language during the fourteenth century. In Latin, the word for tailor was sartor, meaning patcher or mender, hence the English "sartorial," or relating to the tailor, tailoring, or tailored clothing. The term bespoke, or custom, tailoring describes garments made to measure for a specific client. Bespoke tailoring signals that these items are already "spoken for" rather than made on speculation.

Tailoring is one of the things i have passion for. I love to do it.

MY FIRST DAY AT WORK

My first day at work started on 12/10/2021 in Amis Clothing,st. Micheal road, aba, abia state Location was not an easy one, it was very stressful and I was surprised at how things were done.

The first stage was peddling and threading of the machine so that is what I started with. The process was harder than it looked, but after a while I had adjusted to it and became and expert in that aspect.
The next stage was cutting of the cloth which is very important in tailoring, I started cutting out a straight line on a cloth, so that I could make a Clint cloth after which I graduated into circle cutting. Both are very important in dress making or tailoring. It was fun to learn, but I performed the act with all seriousness because of its importance. The head of the shop taught me well, so it was not as hard as learning it on your own.

SECOND DAY AT WORK

The next day i was taught on how to cut a short dress, which was very confusing at first but when it was explained to me by my teacher who is also the head of the shop, I later understood the dynamics and techniques of doing it.

She also gave me some tips which I took down as notes on how to properly measure the body of a customer, the essence of that is to get the accurate size of the customer, in order to get a dress or outfit that fits perfectly.
I vividly remember the first cloth i made, the processes I had learned made it so easy for me. The steps are still fresh in memories till this day.
Firstly take a the full length of the gown, after which take the half length which is the measurement of underbrust ,thereafter the hip and the knee measurement which is very important in sewing a dress. After the measurements, cutting the cloth comes after before joining them together. This few lines written down doesn't do justice to the processes involved in making a dress.

I'm very happy to see that tailoring is a very good skill and it's very profitable, after making my first short gown. It provides a stable mode of living(income), it also provides employment and it encourages one to become a better version of themselves. Tailoring is the real definition of practice makes perfect.

CONCLUSION

I will sincerely appreciate my boss Miss Amis for mentoring me on tailoring even though she's not on steemit platform and also @kingreechy for the lecturing and mentorship at all time.
