ABetter Life With steem Diary Game||Managing my Little Son Who Was Victimized in a Domestic Accident 27/3/22

I greet you all my lovely friends in steemalive Community. I am not in a happy mood as I write this to you because It was a very black Sunday morning for me. My son was a victim of hot water burnt.

Approaching three years of age, he has been a very discreet and wise boy right from when he was younger than this age. He doesn't touch electric wires, he doesn't touch sockets, switches and extension boxes, he doesn't even go near burning fire, whether gas burner, charcoal fire or firewood or stove. He exhibits extra carefulness like an adult when it comes to some things other children would commonize into playing objects.
Even the thermocool flask where hot water is kept for their bathe, he doesn't dare go near it. Even if you mistakenly ask he to pass beside it he will always exclaim

Daddy hot hot hot, Daddy hot water inside!

And if I am bathing him and then fetch hot water from the cooler and pour into his bathing bowl the next thing he will say is

Daddy put, daddy put cold water!

He will be pointing at the cold water closeby
He neither touches it nor goes near to it let alone put hand inside of it's content.

Unfortunately, on this fateful day when the inevitable was a out to happen, I was outside the house washing clothes, a freshly boiled hot was poured into the thermocool flask by the mother to bathe him and his sister while he was playing outside. As she stepped out to drop the kettle, the boy just ran into the house from outside and went straight and dipped his left hand into the hot water and the next is we heard was a very loud shout as he has never done before. When the mother rushed to see what the matter was, he was holding his left hand with the right and jumping up and down and shouting and crying.
At that point, she was already confused on what to do, immediately she beckoned on me to come, I immediately applied salt and engine oil on the hand. I have to suspend the laundry Activities to cuddle him and be fanning him because the heat and hot weather is nothing to right home about. He cried and refused to be consoled. Chai! I really felt for him!

The pain was so excruciating that he couldn't bear or absorb it, he was jumping up, rolling on the ground and at the same time rubbing off the whole salt and engine from the hands
After some time the hand became inflamed and waters accumulated inside. I have to use Syringe and Needle to burst it and draw to drain the waters. Then I applied Gentian Violet to cool off

Subsequently I applied pure honey and penicillin ointment and it started peeling off the blisters. Apart from the topical medication he is Presently on some oral medications also such as Ampicillin+ Cloxacillin suspension (Ampiclox), ibuprofen suspension and Ascorbic Acid syrup(vitamin c).

As it stands now he has been yearning for more Water than usual and I have been given him enough fluid including Oral Rehydration Solution to keep him hydrated. Also egg and liquid milk has become part of his daily meals as this will help supply enough protein to the body especially the affected skin area. Fruits, lemon and orange juice also has been playing a vital role in helping him recover in this very harsh weather.

When I related the incident to a senior colleague in the medical parlance he also advised:

When someone is badly burned between the fingers, in the armpits, or at other joints, sterile gauze pads with Vaseline on the should be put between the burned surfaces to prevent them from gumming and growing together as they heal. Also, fingers, arms and legs should be straightened completely several times a day while healing. This is painful but helps prevent stuff scars that limit movement. While the burned hand is healing, the fingers should be kept in a slightly bent position

Other suggestions that came from people

When my neighbor and friends heard what had happen they begin to raised suggestion as to what I could have done instantly when this happened and these include:
• Applying a Fresh Urine on the burned site.
• Applying a diluted pap(akamu) that hot water had not been added to on the burned site.
• Breaking a raw egg and rubbing it in the whole affected areas.
• Dipping the hand immediately into a cold water.

Conclusion

It is good to have some remedial First aid items at home especially when you have kits because of certain domestic accident of this nature and even others too. It wasn't a funny experience bon this day at all. As I was even helping my little son to cry his pain out. I fanned him for couple of hours before he could sleep off. I hope to see my son recover quickly. Dear son wishing you faster healing.
