Hello Steemians, welcome to my second post in this Steemalive community and today I'll be letting you know 4 things that you need to put into consideration whenever you want to purchase a smartphone.
The world we live in today is advancing in digital technology. Therefore. almost everything is being done online and that is why everyone needs a smartphone. The internet solves a greater percentage of human problems today but the sad truth remains that not every handset or phone is smart enough to access the internet efficiently when needed.
Below are the factors you need to consider when purchasing a smartphone.

  • MEMORY
  • Phones have two kinds of memory – Random Access Memory (RAM) and Read Only Memory (ROM). The RAM, works hand in hand with the processor of your phone to determine the speed of the phone and its ease of operation while the ROM is what most people refer to as the inbuilt storage. This is the memory that is used to store the Operating System, apps and all the videos, photos, music and other files that you want to store on your device Therefore, this means that phones with higher RAM will be faster and those with higher ROM will have more storage. An average phone user should be fully satisfied with a 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM device. But a heavy user would surely go for a phone with around 4-8GB RAM and 64-128GB ROM. To extend your ROM you can also use a micro SD memory card, but remember, apps or files that are stored and run from a memory cards tend to be slower and can easily be lost once the memory card is taken out from your device.

  • PROCESSOR
  • Much like smartphone cameras, there is a lot of hype about processors with jargons like Snapdragon, MediaTek and so on. Here is a simple thumb rule. Look at the processing speed that is expressed in terms of GigaHertz (GHz). The higher the speed, the faster the processor. If you are going to do a lot of photo/video editing or play online games and stream videos, opt for a faster processor. But it is still believed that Snapdragon processors are stronger and faster that MediaTek processors.
  • OPERATING SYSTEM
  • There are basically two Operating Systems (OS) to choose from – Android or iOS. If you opt for iOS, then you are by default opting for an Apple iPhone. All other smartphones like Gionee, Redmi, Oppo, etc function on the Android OS. But this also comes in a confusing array of names and versions. Often the Android devices are tweaked by manufacturers to add new features which could also result in bloatware, thereby slowing down the phone. So, try going through the phone before making the decision.
  • BATTERY
  • Phone Battery comes in mostly two forms Li-ion(Lithium-ion) or Li- PO(Lithium-Polymer). The most significant difference in this 2 forms of battery is the chemical electrolyte between their positive and negative electrodes Li-ion battery are most popular and also lasts longer than Li-PO batteries so if you enjoy using many apps simultaneously on your smartphone, you should purchase phones with Li-ion batteries.

The best thing to do when thinking of a smartphone to buy is to browse about the phones with the features you need before stepping out to get yourself one. It will make you decisive about which one to purchase.
