Good Day All, This is my second entry for this week's Write2Live mini-contest. I’ll be showing you and telling you about my favorite fruits.

Fruits are the fleshy part or seeds of trees that are meant to be taken raw. They are very rich in vitamins and essential minerals that keep the body healthy.

Watermelon

My favorite and most loved fruit is Watermelon. I can get a ball of watermelon in my area at 750 Naira (6 STEEM converting at 125 Naira per STEEM).

Due to the love I have for this fruit, I don’t have a specific spot where I buy it. There are many hawkers around that sell this watermelon, so, whenever I see a good-looking watermelon and I have the money, I’ll buy it and enjoy it.

Most people in my area call it watermelon but the native Igbo name is Anyu.

Health Benefits

  • Watermelon as the name implies contains enough water so the most visible health benefit is that it keeps the body hydrated.
  • Watermelon contains citrulline which is an amino acid that boosts exercise performance.
  • Watermelon contains lycopene and cucurbitacin E which are plant compounds that can combat cancer.
  • The presence of antioxidants in watermelon reduces inflammation and oxidative stress.
  • Enough intake of watermelon increases skin health as it contains vitamin A and C.
  • The presence of water and fiber in watermelon aids digestion.
  • Apple

Apple is another fruit I cherish so much, although it is small and expensive. You can get 1 apple for 150 Naira. (1.2 STEEM converting at 125 Naira per STEEM).

Apples however are not sold randomly by hawkers so I always get them when I visit the Sabo Market.

Apple in Igbo is spelled Apul but still has the same pronunciation as the English name Apple.

    Health Benefits

  • Apple contains Vitamin B6 which aids Protein metabolism.
  • The skin contains fiber which is essential for digestion.
  • Apples contain polyphenols which help to lower blood pressure
  • The polyphenol in apples also lowers your risk of diabetes.
  • The antioxidants in apples can help fight asthma.
  • Quercetin in apples helps to protect the brain from oxidative stress.
  • Banana

Bananas are another amazing fruit. Despite being scarce in my area, I still love Bananas.

A sizable cluster of bananas can be gotten for 400 Naira. (3.2 STEEM converting at 125 Naira per STEEM).

Because it is scarce in my area, It is hard to find a fruit shop selling bananas. I just buy it whenever I mistakenly come across it.

One of the reasons I like bananas is because they can serve as accompaniment for some foods like rice, groundnut, and others. In Igbo Banana is called Une mkpu mkpu, some people call it just Une.

    Health Benefits

  • Bananas help to regulate the body’s sugar level.
  • Bananas contain pectin which helps to prevent constipation.
  • The presence of potassium in bananas makes it good for regulating blood pressure.
  • Unripe bananas when taken can increase insulin sensitivity which could make the money more responsive to diseases.
  • Bananas contain flavonoids which reduce the risk of heart diseases.
  • Bananas are easily digested and this makes them good for athletes.
  • Conclusion

All fruits play a vital role in keeping you healthy so we should always include fruits when planning our diet and meals.
    Remember, Health is wealth.
