I was having a conversation with a lady who is about my age. Our conversation rubbed off on several topics. Then we talked about some intimate things. I don't know how to express the awe and shock on her face when I told her I have girlfriend.

What she said after I told her I have a girlfriend is what triggered this post. "Guitarboy for someone like you to have a girlfriend, it means you really love her and she is intelligent
Well I told her my girlfriend is neither from a "very rich home" or "very intelligent". Inasmuch as many of us are in a relationship but would own it up, there's something I would like to point out here.

The statement by my lady friend underscored and punctuated the average mindset of many people. People don't longer go into relationship for love but to satiate and satisfy their inflated egos. Thus, a promising young man must find a very rich girl or a promising young lady to be in a relationship with and vice versa.

This is the reason many homes are broken and many marriages are dissolved. People don't believe in grooming the kind of people they want or growing up with the one they love. Everyone wants to date or marry a promising and an accomplished person to suit their selfish selves.

These sets of people later get married to realise that the character of their partner is nothing they can put up with. Consequently such relationships or marriages are broken or dissolved.

People should learn from their parents sometimes, and not always follow the most times mob-chasing celebrities as models. I don't in any attempt try to overrule the place of complementarity, what I am saying is that marriage and relationship should come off the block of love and understanding and not egocentric satiation.
