#2020Vision Diary: Day 13

in hive-167922 •  5 years ago

How do you deal with unlucky day 13, when there really is no way to list 4 things you’re proud of for that particular day? You reflect on the first 2 weeks of your 2020 journey.

I always laugh at those new year, new me memes where they suggest to try again next year, because you already f’d up for the new year. Reality is, we get a new shot at it every day. That’s 365 opportunities in one year. Depending on your mental strength, it could be ever more. You don’t need a new year, you just need to recognize the next opportunity that could get you closer to achieving your goal(s).

For me, 2020 has still caught me by surprise, mainly because I’ve challenged myself to go out of my comfort zone and commit to things that will long term benefit myself, but do cause some issues short term.

The first of course being the daily blog. Yes sure, it is only an update and I decide on the length myself, on the other side, I’m setting up my writing commitment for a goal that I’ve failed for the past 5 years, writing a book. While I’m not seeing any progression or clear timeline for the book, I have managed to upload my diary daily for almost 2 weeks, giving me enough reason to continue and aim for at least 300 daily blogs in 2020. A big Steem bonus, I’ve managed to continuously nominate Surinamese steemians up until now. Never realized that there were already so many that have joined the blockchain.

The second, improving my morning routine. I’ve never been a big morning person, but I’ve luckily benefited from the fact that my daughter needs to be at school at 7.55 AM, giving me enough external motivation to get up in the morning and do everything possible to get her there on time. I also changed my diet, leading to more productive mornings and a sense of accomplishment every day at noon, which means that even on the worst workdays, I still have many highlights to look back on.

Third, getting more structured. I tried focusing solely on my strengths in 2019. And to be honest, it went quite well. However, 3 personal assistants later, I do realize that in the end, most things can only be solved when you make the commitment yourself. Yes, there already have been some double bookings in my agenda, but luckily it turned out ok and each one of the were solved before the set date. And yes, I’m learning to delegate, let go and delete, and I am getting better at it every year. Looking at my calendar now, I can’t recall a January as structured as this one.

The fourth, improving the quality of interactions. With everyone. Clients, colleagues, my family, my children, my wife. In a world of spectacle where a lot revolves around speed, we often get caught up in getting things done over building up relationships, critiquing others over finding common ground, getting appraisal through the amount of likes over actual human interaction. As we look at numbers, we sometimes fail to recognize that quality is more important than quantity. For me, putting my phone away to interact with others has been the first big step. And I’m pretty sure there are more to come.

Question of the day
What is the one New Years resolution you have that keeps coming back every year?

My personal twist:
For me the main focus will be on posting 4 things I did every day instead of 4 creative pushups.

I have to say, I love reading your blog posts. It's interesting to get a glimpse of what your day to day life is & what you learn from it. This particular post really resonated for me. So many of us get these New Year's Resolutions with an "all or nothing" attitude. We start with high hopes that we will magically stick to them but then once we fall short one time, we scrap the whole thing & subside to the fact we will just do it next year. You were spot on about we don't need a certain TIME to start again & work on our goals. We can begin anytime. It's all in the mindset & setting realistic short term goals (and rewards) that will inspire us to keep going, even when times are tough. (Wow, should I do a blog post on this, too? LOL)

Anyways, my "resolution" that continues to pop up each year is time management. It sounds silly, but it's true. While my life is constantly busy & I do get a lot done, I feel I could get so much more accomplished in less time & have more space for the fun things, even if it's just reading a good book or relaxing. So, I set a "goal" to learn what works for me in this area and apply it.

Thanks for being an awesome participant. Continue to #pushon with the #2020Vision! You got this. I believe you WILL write that book. (I will be one of the buyers! :) )🧚‍♀️🙌🦄💜🌱

Yes. Time management gets us all. Just because Time has always been undefeated. We constantly try to beat it, which isn't possible 😂.

You shpuld definitely write a blog post on it.

I'm currently thinking on how I can move this challenge towards a writing challenge on my website (currently not live btw) in February. I'll keep you posted.
