“Black birds tend to like Shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven
I apologize for the lateness of this “Coinstar” Report but I will condense the last four months of Coin finds from my local Coinstar, Compass Fare machines, and Pepsi (I’m not getting any advertising $$$ from this beverage company) Drink Machine.
I started this little project back late November 2018 so the grand final totals will be reflective for 13 months rather than 12.
The original objective was to find silver coin from the local Coinstar machines where I do my routine shopping. I drew inspiration from an American friend on another social platform who had found silver coins in her local Coinstar machines as customers often neglect checking the Rejected Coin tray. And this year a few of our members have been successful, right @plaid?
In the beginning I was getting tangible measurable results from Coinstar followed by a dry spell from the remainder of the year until the 2 Euro cent and a few US coin popped up in October.
Though I never found any silver coin, I got a modest reward for my efforts from Coinstar, Compass, and the Pepsi machine I often pass in my commute.
A significant change lately is the Electronic Point-of-sale Card reader installed on this heavily used Train Station Soda/drink machines that have yielded plenty coins in the past but, no more since this upgrade took place.
We are ever marching forward to our cashless society. I may just have a chance if the firmware goes awry for some reason.
So, on to the results of the last quarter of 2019!

$41.37 CAD just by looking in the little tray when you walk by!? That's nothing the shake a carbonated drink at @kerrislravenhill. Excellent coin purchase as well, I just love that design.
The most intriguing part of this post for me though?
:)

I can just see an old guy dumping his box of change in the coinstar then when he gets home looking for his hearing aid batteries and suddenly remembering HE DUMPED THEM IN THE COINSTAR MACHINE!

I may try checking between the cushions of old used and vintage couches at thrift stores as another possible coin source.

From 'Off-Grid' cash into 'Off-grid' savings so eventually all this free cash will be used to but a nice silver coin in the end even if I don't find silver in these machines, a happy ending.
Thanks for the comment @silverd510

WOW... that is not a modest reward.... it is super! And that Queen Anne's Revenge... so beautiful! A collector's coin... so appropriate for you, my stacking sis!
Have a great week, Take care 🥰🌺🤙 and a million Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!!!

I originally purchased the Queen Anne's revenge on my card because I knew these are going fast and I can't wait for funds. I ended up borrowing on my Emergency reserves with the self imposed promise to cover it later from my Bottle Deposit recovery program or if I got lucky with my Coinstar finds. The $41.37 was more than adequate to cover the cost of one coin at $32.65 CAD, now I can't get them even for $50 CAD.
As in your article Sis, always use Credit responsibly!
Hugs! 🤗 🌺 💝 🌹 💓 🌸

It wasn't even close to funding a real working replica ship!
Eventually this cash was gonna be used to buy something silvery if I find silver from these machines or not, there was gonna be a Happy Ending.

Thanks for the shoutout @kerrislravenhill! Yes! Silver can be found! I have only found silver once and it was but a mere dime, but nevertheless it was free silver! For those interested here was my post about it... free silver!
I'd say you had a good year! (13 months, close enough.) And although it wasn't silver in the tray, all that change ends up turning into some shiny... just a bit of alchemy to convert clad coins into precious metals (or a trip to the LCS)!
Anyway, thanks for sharing! I love these posts! :)

At least you are still ahead of me. 1 to 0. In direct finds.
I just took an indirect long way around to paying for the silver with the proceeds of my finds and at the same time build a collection of foreign coins.
Then there's my Aluminum cans into Silver coins operation to buy that 1977 Bermuda $25 coin and the 1979 Costa Rica 100 Colones sterling silver coins. Cash entirely recovered from 780 Can and bottle deposits.
Collecting Cans paid off! I may do a Summary post on that.
So keep checking those Coinstars and any other Coin handling contraption @plaid

🤗 Some of the Coinstar machines down by me sell BTC, do the machines up in Canada do the same?

I heard of that, but none of my Machines are selling BTC. Yet. They could be ready for that feature but I think that they require government's and our big bank's blessing before they are allowed to retail crypto. For now we have a few private unregulated type machines located in a chain of Coffee shops around town. They have pretty steep fees though.

The coinstar machines I'm told also have very high fees.
This will get the word out to the public, when anybody on the street can just walk up and buy BTC🤗

Nice job! I always check the machine, but tend to not find any very often. You've done well, keep at it, that's where most of my "world" coins have come from.

Much of my foreign coins come from the Coinstar, the majority of the cash come from the Fare and drink dispensers.
May as well keep trying.
You'll never know what you'll find.

That's pretty impressive that you were able to find a couple of Twonies and a Loonie. It's curious that someone would not have heard that "clink" into the rejected coins. Your gain!

The automatic sorting and counting process is rather noisy and not just the process of pouring the coins into the receptacle.
Maybe the customer is in a hurry, distracted, or didn't care.
The reject coins become fair game, first come, first served. 😄
