2019 is closing down and we are about to ring in 2020 !! As the months pass crypto winter is farther and farther behind us. So what do we believe will happen to crypto in 2020 ? is it still a good investment ? Will BTC shoot to the moon again at halving or will it crash and bring down the alt-coin market. Will the alt-coin market finally separate from BTC ?
My gut feeling is blockchain tech with continue to advance lead by the gaming industry. As far as pricing that is a little different. By now we all understand that the US IRS claiming crypto is an asset class and not a currency hurt the use case dramatically and led to the early days of the crypto-winter.
So I don't see a big jump in crypto prices driven by use as a currency in 2020. However there is a large global event that will make crypto shine again. Now crypto will not be the headline of every paper and every taxi driver will not be giving you tips on the next "to the moon" project, but people will learn about crypto.
What is that event ? It is the Winter Olympics in Tokyo. A little background, Japan has been mostly a cash based society. They have skipped the financial instrument growth of the last 3 decades. Very few people use credit cards and most shops don't have credit card terminals. This has changed in the last few years as in preparation for the Olympics, Japan's largest POS supplier has sent out new terminals to all its customers. Not only do those terminals accept credit cards but they also accept Crypto !!!!
This will raise awareness and allow people from all over the world to enjoy shopping in Japan without having to worry about currency exchange. Even tho the US is opting out of this market. It will show the rest of the world the use case for Crypto. Will this make the price spike... not really but it is another large ember on the fire that is the crypto movement.
The BTC halving will come and go and not much will happen. Every halving event from here on out will have a smaller and smaller impact on the BTC price as we approach most of the coins already existing.
The biggest thing will be consolidation in the alt coin market. Hopefully coins will fail and whole blockchains will merge together or be taken over. This consolidation will help the price more than anything else.
