So in the last couple of days I read an interesting post by @taskmaster4450
In this post he talked about sizing up steem-engine token projects. I am not sure what his purpose was for posting this but to me seemed to come from frustration, that it was hard to find out which tokens to invest in.
The post seemed to skew bias towards steemleo tokens. Which is fine I do currently support them.
His point was, the same point we all talk about with all crypto is .... what are these good for ? If the tokens don't have a use case then they just go to zero. In this point I 100% agree. I have always talked about use cases.
I am going to break down my views on Steem-Engine tokens below. We will break them down into the 4 categories I feel they belong in.
1st are the Community tokens, such as steem-leo, pal, neoxag, sports, SPT, etc......
this tokens award their members for posting and upvoting each other. My feelings is the word is still out on these as currently they are growing off a FIFO strategy.
I know I will get hate for that statement and you will point to the amazing things they are doing, etc, etc...
Yes I agree that is why I am saying the word is still out. Some of these will survive and grow, others will not...
2nd are fun Tokens, such as MEEP, BEER, etc.....
this group of tokens allow users to interact with each other. Will they hold value ? I don't think it matters, they make being on the blockchain more fun and social. So I would not worry about these as investment and if you get some... enjoy them. Will they go to zero?? most likely but that is not the point
3rd are Investment tokens, such as SPIinvest, MAXUV, tipu, buildteam,
this group of tokens lets you buy shares in a pool of investment. These will need to be looked at in more depth in a future post but they will hold value based on what the investment vehicle is.
4th are the gaming tokens. I feel this is the area with the biggest growth.
These include DEC, stardust, Battle, etc....
Like it or not 2 things having driving the modern computing world, Gaming & Porn.
These tokens are used in games like, splinterlands, nextcolony, steemnova, steemquest, radaquest
As long as the games are popular or the coins get new games to use them. The game itself will allow tokens to be printed and burned in game. Each game will create its own ecosystem.
Now the games may come and go due to new games or uncontrollable power creep but the tokens that diversify across mutliple games will be the best investment opportunities.
Now another issue @taskmaster4450 had was not finding roadmap's or info on the tokens. True this can be difficult, but since we are not centrally controlled. No one is forcing the tokens to give a quarterly prospectus.
So how can you find out about the tokens. Well you can get in discords and monitor them or interact with the however they communicate.
We most likely need token analysts as the next way to grow and understand tokens. The analysts can give Hold, Sell, Buy on each token.
Is anyone interested in this type of content??
Interesting post, I did read @taskmaster4450 as well and will agree that use case will be the deciding factor in what tokens actually have a future.
I like that you pointed out some of the tokens are "fun" tokens and it doesn't matter what their value goes to.
