Prologue
In the battle between good and evil, one description may hold valid - there are centuries of darkness within millennia of light. The saying economically applies to society as a whole. It is doubtful that many humans, if any, live to see the transition between these periods.
I do not know why there are horrors in this world. I only know that they exist. I do not understand how these horrors affect our society. I only know that some succumb to them while others rise above. Those that rise above the fears of their lives may do so because of their faith in themselves or something more significant. Sometimes, faith in humanity is all we need to endure the darkness before emerging into the light.
Introduction

Welcome, fellow Steemians, to our first installment in the Faith in Humanity series. During this series, we discuss everyday acts of humanity that may either restore your faith in humanity or crush it.
What makes us kind?
There are no textbook responses in today's answer. People are kind because they want to share an activity that brings positivity to someone else. Perhaps the kind person wants to share something they can't enjoy themselves? Depending on what that person shares, it could be some innocuous thing that puts a smile on someone else's face.
What causes our cruelty?
Something is amiss in this type of mind: anger, despair, or an absence of humanity. We become cruel because an overriding emotion brings about a desire to satisfy your own needs. I've known cruelty more than kindness in my life. I'm sure we all have.
Faith in Humanity - Activities
#1 Pilot Does a Good Deed
A pilot decided to re-open the plane door to allow some passengers to enter the flight before leaving United. Thankfully, the potentially stranded passengers were able to take their flight home.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? I don't ever remember a pilot re-opening the plane doors to allow for rushing passengers to enter a plane. The pilot must have been very understanding to let it happen.
#2 Brain Cancer and Preschoolers
Cancer is a monster inside of us. It consumes, spreads, and kills us in the end. There are few moments in our lives worse than the idea of a child suffering through cancer. Despite the emotional stress of the illness, you have the horrendous costs of treatment.
Fortunately, for one child suffering through brain cancer, preschoolers came to the aid. They started a hot chocolate stand to raise money for medical costs. They got up to $10,000. You have to stop in awe at the wonders of humanity when something like this happens (Daily News).
#3 Vietnam Vet - One Last Ride
Suffering from the effects of Agent Orange exposure during Vietnam, an older man is now in hospice care. An avid motorcycle rider, he had to stop riding motorcycles two years ago due to his progressively deteriorating condition. Fear not, however, as a group of motorcyclists gathers to give him a motorcycle ride before passing from this Earth (Ride Apart).
