SPInvest: Actively Engaging In Our ReturnsteemCreated with Sketch.

Investors are always looking for a return. In fact, they are always looking how to increase their return. Over time, an improvement of a few percent can make an enormous different.

Activist investors are the types who seek to influence the return they get. They do not depend upon decisions of others but, rather, get actively involved. This is far different from actively managing a portfolio. Instead, they get involved with the decisions of the company.

In the stock market, to be able to do this, one obviously has to be a big player. Activist investors tend to be hedge funds who own a great deal of stock or an individual such as a Carl Icahn. He goes into companies that are failing yet have potential in his mind and works to change the direction of the company.

He is not waiting around for the quarterly numbers to simply provide him his return.

This approach is not possible for the average investor. We are stuck with either operating in a passive fund, such as an index fund, or actively managing a portfolio yet with little influence. Our actions will ultimately have little impact upon the companies we are investing in.

Crypto-economics offers a different path. On Steem, we can see numerous ways to influence our returns. Curating, for example, is a means of actively engaging with the community in an effort to garner some return. The upvotes we cast provide some form of payout. Over time, this adds up.

To me @spinvest epitomizes this model. One has the ability to take a passive approach and garner a return. The model is established through the use of SP to lease out. This is the foundation. At the same time, other assets are purchased, both on and off chain, that will, hopefully, go up in value over time.

This is obviously a wonderful model and does reflect what we see in the present system.

However, if this is all one is doing, there is a grand opportunity being missed. The simple fact is that, like Carl Icahn in the stock market, we can influence our returns with SPInvest. Utilizing the tools on Steem, we can see how each of us has the ability to grow the entire ecosystem.

It is here where we move from being a passive investor to active one.

What can be done?

To start, how about upvoting the content that is posted by the accounts. This is a simple way to start generating a greater return. We know the payouts under the Proof of Brain model add up over time. Upvotes given in this area benefit every single SPI token holder. While it might be minuscule individually, collectively, over time, it all adds up. Remember, a couple extra percent a year can really make a difference.

This is especially true when it comes to some of the Steem-Engine tokens. There is already a couple of accounts that are curating for the investment club. Thus, for anyone who has either LEO or NEO tokens, we have a couple different options.

The first is to delegate tokens to those particular accounts. @spinvest-leo and spinvest-neo are also looking for more delegation. Each pays out monthly for the use of the tokens delegated. While the return might not be great from the personal delegation standpoint, it is vital to remember these accounts are accumulating both LEO and NEO tokens. These belong to the club meaning each token holder is benefiting.

Another option is, if you actively upvote content yourself on those platforms, to be sure and hit up all the SPInvest accounts. Again, it might not be a lot for one vote but, collectively, it can influence the return.

Moderation is a way to also help out. A call went out by the SPInvest team looking for moderators. It was a post most much have missed but it is something all should consider helping out with.

Here is the post that talked about that.

We saw over the last week, the power of Twitter and the combined efforts of a community to garner attention. This is something that we can tap into. For those who are on other social media platforms, let us, collectively, try to reach out to others. There are many people who are talented at making memes and other materials of that nature. Those can be sent out on social media to try and get a few eyes on SPInvest.

At the same time, we can push out articles such as this which talk about the project. We have the right model in my opinion so it is just a matter of getting people aware that it exists. With DeFi getting so much attention, it is a great time to tap into that sentiment.

The final point I want to cover is ideas. A few cannot think of all for everyone. We all have ideas about how to innovate things. Here is a perfect opportunity to experiment with new ideas. Simply post them in the comment section of any SPInvest account or get on discord and give them to the appropriate people.

Ultimately, we all have the ability to influence the return that we receive by being involved with SPInvest.
