Introduction

Hello everyone! Trust you are all doing well. My name is Ade ( which means crown in Yoruba language) and I am known as @adeade on this platform. I am here to participate in episode 35 of the 'choice' contest. I would like to pick item 2 which is " Question." But before I delve into the main body of the content, I will like to describe my keywords, as I always do, for seamless reading:

  • Tag: this is a small mark or label.

  • Information: this is something that is known
    about another thing.

  • Acquisition: this is the act or process of acquiring or getting something else.

  • Knowledge: general understanding or familiarity with something.

  • Catalyst: someone or something that encourages change.

Having described my keywords, I, first of all, want to explain what is meant by the term 'Question.' Questions
are words, phrases or sentences that seek information, response or reply. It is a simple tool that serves as gateways to knowledge acquisition. Question also opens the gateway to discoveries. In the English language, a complete questioning statement is followed by a question tag or mark '?.' The question mark also indicates the end of a sentence. The functions of 'Questions' cannot be overemphasized. However, I am going to be listing few of its functions below:

  • Unleashing curiosity: curiosity is a human instinct that nourishes research, learning, etc. So 'Question' helps us to structure our learning process by beaming rays of light to the dark portion of our knowledge deficit.

  • Key to information acquisition:
'Question' usually serves as the master key that opens the door of our knowledge, so that where there are deficiencies, the right information to make up for the deficiencies can flow in. It exposes where we are lagging in knowledge and tends to make it possible for the right information to flow in.

  • Catalyst for growth: 'Questions' serve as catalyst for growth by challenging the status quo thereby encouraging progressiveness. It is an enemy of the status quo. Most things would have remained the way they are if not because people ask questions.

  • Bring about engagement and understanding: 'Question' does not only serve as the master key to knowledge acquisition, it also brings about understanding. Continuous engagement through the medium of questioning brings more understanding to the subject of discuss. The soul of verbal engagement is questioning.

  • Quest for knowledge and understanding: sometimes, the acquisition of knowledge does not amount to acquisition of understanding. For example, a physics student may be able to state the Newton law of gravitation, but may not be able to explain it all because he doesn't understand. It is one case to acquire knowledge and it is a different case to understand what has been learnt.

The value of the question cannot be overemphasized. The growth in science and technology we have today is as a result of questions being asked. Bonds are created by people because they engage with one another through meaningful questioning. 'Question' brings about enlightenment. I therefore encourage us not to shy aways from asking 'questions' or from responding to questions when we are being asked.

I thank you all for taking time to read my post and I hope you learnt one or two things. Feel free to comment your opinion.

I want to use this medium to invite the following steemians to join the contest: @goodybest, @bossj23 and @olivia
