It's the big 50!🎉🎊✨. When I saw this contest on @ disconnect’s timeline, I knew I was never going to miss it come what may. Today is another real-life story but this time laced with fiction. Read. Learn. Share your thoughts.
Life is a bit different for most children who grow up in conservative homes.
Children who grow up in these homes, for instance, have very little freedom. They are not allowed to play with all kids, especially the badly behaved ones. They are given a curfew which could start as early as 4 PM.
You will hardly find them at parties. And if they manage to attend these events, something bad usually happens to them. It's almost like their parents had been shielding them from this harm all along. But if it were their destiny, could protecting them stop it from occurring?
One of my classmates in secondary school had overly protective parents.
He would never attend events, not even his JSS 3 graduation ceremony.
He rarely ate from the school's canteen for some unknown reasons. The first day he tried breaking the jinx in JSS 2, he ended up with food poisoning that caused him to defecate until his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. He spent the whole week at the hospital stooling and purging.
On the day he got discharged, he vowed never to make that mistake again. In his words, “He would never wish the same for his worst enemy.”
He was a good boy but he always had a way of landing in big troubles—the ones little boys should never experience.
Rumour had it that he had a huge crush on the cutest girl on campus. She was a tall, slim girl with the features of Rihanna and the confidence of Martin Luther.
The boys drooled when she walked past. Girls wanted to be her friend. Even Cha-Cha, the Chairman's only son had a fixation on her. Cha-cha was literally obsessed with the girl and he wanted her all to himself. He was never willing to share — he never shared his toys, so why share his girl?
He would growl like a wounded lion if anyone dared to borrow a pencil from “his lady”.
When he heard the rumour of the crush, he approached the boy himself. But the small, quiet boy, would not be dissuaded. But isn't that what love does? Doesn't it make one summon courage to kill leopards?
On that beautiful Sunday morning when the world seemed to be at peace with itself, a household was troubled instead. Their only son had attended his first party and hadn't returned.
Wouldn't, actually.
The report from the police had it that at 4:36 PM on Friday, the boy and his friends had attended a party at Cha-Cha's residence.
The boy had somehow smuggled himself out of his parent's house about 5 minutes before his curfew time. He hoped to see his “miss adorable” one more time before the term ended. He chose Cha-Cha's birthday party.
The duo had a good time together. They held hands like a couple, karaoked to John Legend's “All of Me”_, watched the moon get lost in the clouds and touched their lips when no one was watching.
Alas! Cha-Cha did. He waited for the two to part ways before luring the boy to his backyard and drugging his juice with some substance that had a poppy effect.
While the boy slept, he pulled him over, closer to the poolside and dropped him in while he was still helpless.
The police recorded the time of death to be 7:21 PM.
But he was a little boy, who grew up in a conservative home. He had a great future ahead of him but he never attended another party ever again.
