WHAT HAPPENED

After my final year examination as an undergraduate, the next thing that I was to start my clearance so I will be able to go for N.Y.S.C (NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS).

But something happens I couldn't do my clearance because after the final year examination I was hospitalized for weeks. I was scared for my life, have never been sick in the school ,only slide headache or maybe stomach that would disappear once I take my medication prescribe by the school doctor. After I had recover from the sickness I decided to start my clearance by then I was not longer in school I had to pay transportation to my school which was so far away from my hometown.

I started the clearance process from students Affairs, to the Bursary, Academic adviser, department, library and lastly the faculty clearance. When I reached the faculty officer's office I was told he wasn't around, so I had to continue with the clearance the next week so I left school on that Friday. The next week which was on a Monday I went back to school to finish the faculty clearance. I was there early so I could be attended to on time, The faculty officer starting attending to the students, I was the next, so I went inside the office, he ask me to bring out my receipt and everything that is required for me to be cleared, after I did that he asked me which department, I told him history and International Studies department, he said this department in a low tone. He asked me why I had to do my clearance late when others were done with theirs. I explained to him that I was seriously ill for Weeks, so I was hospitalized.

He told me to leave his office, that I wasn't a serious student, that I look to his face and lied. He ordered me to leave his office, that he is busy. I begged him and told him I cannot lie to him that I was seriously ill. He told me I should not stress him I should come back and do my clearance with the next set.

I didn't want to get limited or discourage by his word "next set" so the next day I went again, he told me that he cannot attend to me that I should go back and come back the next day. I was happy that I will be cleared so I thanked him and I left the office .

I went back the next day he wasn't in school, I felt so bad because the transportation I paid down there was too much for it to be a waste, I had to pass the night at my junior colleague house. Very early the next day , I went to his office luckily I was the first person he would have attended to but instead he call other students from other department to come in, and he attended to them.

When he was through with them he told me to come in,he said to me history student are too stubborn, so full of themselves and lazy at the same time, you think this is your department, leave my office, come back and do your clearance with the next set.

I was so heartbroken , I did not have who to complain to and did not want to be tagged as the student who report his faculty officer to the Dean of faculty. I worked out of the office, I try to comport myself and then I could not as tear run down my eyes . I don't know what must have happened that he had hatred towards history students.

While waiting and hoping if he will change his mind and attend to me, I saw my lecturer who was towards the faculty with lots of books so I went to help him. I cleaned my tears because wouldn't want him to see that I was crying . so help him carry the books, he was asked me how I felt after writing my final examination and how am preparing to obey the clarion call.

While trying to answer his questions, I burst into tear I couldn't control my tears, he asked me why I was crying, I told him that the faculty officer refused to cleared me that I wasn't a serious student.

it was a moment I had I expression how heart broken I was to my lecturer. He held me by his hand and took me to the faculty officer. He said to the faculty officer " I want you to clear this girl, what so ever you need to do, do everything today, she must not come back to your office again and he answered yes Prof, he was about leaving the office when he came back and told him , should any of my children I quote comes here for clearance do not maltreat them, my student should not suffer for be cleared in your office, he answered again yes Prof. am sorry it won't happen again.

It was like a movie, the man got my file and I was cleared within a second, something I had been suffering for 2weeks, I was excited, I went back to my lecturer to thank him for being my Savior and speaking for the students of history who would come for their clearance too.

I was helped by my lecturer at the time I had no hope of who would help me. Prof Awana was a lecturer who had so much love for his students, and wouldn't want his students to be maltreated. Dr Anwana was not only a lecturer but also a barrister by profession. He defended me like he would have done to someone in court.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNT

I have learnt that in any environment i fine myself I should be of good behavior. My good deeds speak for me, I was found good both in character and in learning. That is one of the things that made my lecturer helped me because he knew I was not a bad student.

My School Clearance experience was weird.
