Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Ikom, there was a beautiful, proud and arrogant princess and her name was Pretty. She was the daughter of the great King named Edem and her mother's name was Stella who were the rulers of the land.

Pretty's stunning look and royal upbringing made her proud and annoying. She often boost about our wealth, intelligence and beauty, looking down on those who were less fortunate. The kingdom's subjects feared and avoided her due to her sharp mouth and proud attitude.

One day, she decided to go for a walk around the village alone, on her way she mistakenly fell into a gutter that was filled with mud. She cried out for help and a humble farmer by name Ikpa that was in his farm ran out towards her and helped by pulling her out of the mud.

Pretty was so furious and embarrassed as a commoner saw her in mud so she demanded that the farmer must apologize for seeing her in such a state and plead for forgiveness, else she will report that he was the one that pushed her in the mud.

Ikpa was frightened because she is royalty but he replied calmly, "my princess, I am sorry but I wouldn't apologize for doing something good. You are not better than me because we are all human beings created by God equally."

Pretty got very angry and went home, she ordered that the palace guards to go and arrest Ikpa to be imprisoned for his ill-manner. The king recognizing Ikpa knew that Ikpa is a honest citizen of the kingdom, a man filled with kindness and wisdom. After hearing and analyzing the matter.

The King decided to teach his daughter a lesson for disrespecting an important citizen. He decided within him to disguise himself as a poor beggar and approach Pretty in the palace garden. She mocked the beggar not knowing he is her father, refused to help and ask the guards to throw the dirty beggar out of the palace.

When the King later reveal himself to the princess, he said to her, your pride has blinded you, making you forget all about compassion and you humility. We are to rule with kindness, else we will lose the love and respect of our people.

Pretty was so ashamed of herself, felt great regret and from that day she had a change of heart. She began to volunteer in clinics and schools in her community. With time, her heart soften and are pride disappear.

Ikpa was now a royal advisor who guided the princess in a new part of kindness. They established programs to help the poor and needy in the Kingdom. Pretty's true beauty now shone from within and her acts of kindness made her earned the kingdom's admination. She was now beautiful inside and out and her parents were so happy for the daughter's growth in humility.

MY LESSONS

No matter how beautiful you think you are, true beauty depend on how humble and kind you are. No matter your status, it is good to show compassion and kindness to change lives.

Everyone deserve to be respected regardless your status. Pride can blind us from doing good so try and avoid being too proud forgetting kindness and humility.
