MY MOTHER-IN-LAW

Hello my favourite people! Today I will love to share a story about my mother-in-law. I still remember the first day I met my mother-in-law, it's like it was yesterday. Her name is Grace and I've come to love her so much.

It was not too long after my husband and I started dating and he wanted to take me to his mother. I was very nervous about meeting his mother. We fixed a date to go and see his mother but I disappointed him at first by lying that I couldn't make it because my mother sent me on an errand.

On another occasion, he fixed another date and this time I could not say no. I followed him to his mother's place. When his mother saw me, she welcomed me with open arms and a warm smile. She told me that there was nothing in the house so she will like me to go to the market and get some materials to make a little soap for us to eat.

She just gave me money and did not specify the kind of soup I should buy ingredients for. On my way to the market I thought of the soup I know how to cook very well which is our local soup "afang soup". I got the ingredients needed to make the soup and went back home.

On getting home my mother-in-law asked me to please make the soup for us to eat. She offered to help me in the cooking but I told her she shouldn't worry that I can handle it myself. With tension and anxiety, I made the soup and it turned out well🤗. Thank God for my mother whom I learnt from. I was so happy she liked my cooking.

After eating and chatting, we bidded each other other farewell and I went back to my house. I never knew that it was actually a test of my culinary skills until after my marriage when my husband told me that his mother actually tested me that day she asked me to cook soup for her.

And guess what! she actually asked my husband to hurry and marry me because she liked the way I communicated with her and she liked my personality. Unlike the other girls he had dated and took to his mum.

After my marriage, I now have a very serious relationship with my mother-in-law. Now even my husband gets jealous of our closeness. She hardly calls her son but always calling me to check up on me and discuss any other things. She gives me small stipend whenever she gets her salary(pension).

Whenever I reflect on my relationship with my mother-in-law, I realize that my she has become more than just a mother-in-law to me. She is now a mentor and a confidante. Her presence in my life has enrich me in ways I never thought of. I am grateful for her unwavering love and support.
