A beautiful girl from Itembe village is full of dreams and goals, her name is Nick. Nick wants to alleviate her family's poverty, and as such, she's doing all she can to achieve this dream. But the big question is; where will she start from? Her family is in abject poverty, the mother sells fruits by the roadside, and the father hulks snacks on the street; irrespective of her family's status, Nick is resolved to move the family out of the present financial state.
When Nick was an Adolescent, she heard people say education is the key to success, and from her experience, she found out that her role model, Mrs Okonge, who became finance minister, was highly educated. Therefore, she decided that she would attain the highest education one could ever have and become a successful woman in society. This seemed to be a mere dream as her parents didn't support her because of financial limitations.
Nick sells alongside her mom and saves some money that she would use and register for her final examination in high school. She studies hard and is doing well in her studies. She could only go this far because the State government offers free basic education to her citizens. Her parents only wanted her to seize that opportunity, gain basic educational knowledge, and see what life offers afterward.
On the morning of her final examination in high school, her beloved mother fell sick and she was rushed to the nearest healthcare facility. Nick became destabilized; how would a young girl of her age pick up her pieces and focus on her examination? When Mr Etim turned and looked around in fear and anxiety after his wife had been taken into the emergency ward, he saw her daughter rooming about the facility's auditorium; he walked up to her and held her: Nick, what are you doing here? You are supposed to be in school for your final examination. Nick replies; Mom is sick, is she going to be fine? Her Dad responded; your mom will be okay; remember what you promised your mom, that you will become a successful woman academically! You can't give up now, go I will look after your Mom.
Nick left for school, and when she got to school, the examination had already begun twenty minutes earlier. She rushed into the hall, and after telling the examiner the reason she came late, she was allowed to write her examination, and she wrote.
On returning home, Nick heard some cries a few meters away from her house. Where could the cries come from? She asked. As she moved closer to her house, the sound of cries seemed to be from her house, and she asked; could it be what I am thinking? She ran to her house to clear her mind; unfortunately, when she got there, her house was congested by neighbors who cried aloud and said her mother's name, Ima. She asked what was going on, and nobody answered; she rushed into the house and found her mom lying lifeless on the bed. She shook her while exclaiming; Mom, mom, mom! Her mom didn't respond, and neither did she move; she was dead. Nick cried helplessly and unconsolingly. She wanted to become successful for her family, including her mom, the biggest enemy, shatters her.
Will Nick pass the examination she wrote in her devastating state, and now that she faces the misfortune of her mom's death, will she still pursue her dreams? Watch out for part 2.
