SEC13 WK4: "Shopping Spree!"

INTRODUCTION

Shopping is the activity of purchasing goods or services, typically from retail stores or online platforms, in exchange for money. It involves selecting items, comparing prices, and making decisions based on personal preferences or needs. Shopping can range from daily necessities to recreational or luxury items, and it is a fundamental aspect of daily life for many people.

Who does the shopping in your household? Why?

Shopping in every other household can be done by any member of the family, but my family case is different because I am the only one that does all the shopping which is my birthright. Most times I became furious because even when I was busy with other house chores, no one would go shopping until I finished up. On several occasions my siblings do go with me, but on no account that I remember they have gone on their own, except when it was their shopping.

I did most of the things in the house, from cooking, cleaning, and laundry, so they believe I'm in the position to know what is available in the house and what the family needs at any given time. I grew up with my grandmother in the village, and if there is anything I can proudly say I learned from her, it would be her bargaining power and her ability to make friends with sellers in a minute. In the village market where we shopped then, my grandmother could buy the whole commodities without having a penny in her purse, because of the way she had good rapport with the shop owners, both male and female.

Today in Abuja where I live, my neighborhood market is like my village square because almost everyone in the market knows my face.That familiarity with my customers and my stylish way of bargaining made me the purchasing manager in my household because they believed no one could do it better than me.

Are you a “shopper” or a “buyer”? Explain

I'm sure a buyer. As a buyer I did market and price surveys before going to the market, there is always a price tag on every good on my list.
Buyers play a crucial role in the economy, driving demand for products and services. Their decisions can be influenced by factors such as personal preferences, budget constraints, and the perceived value of what they are purchasing.

Who do you think Iinds the best bargains, men or women?

😂😂😂😂😂 When it comes to bargaining best please leave it for the women. A woman can price a product from #5000 to #1500 and she would get it. I remember one day I went to the market with my sister, then I was kind of new to the market way and that day I decided I was going to follow to know how she got things at that rate and had so much change. We got to a shop to buy something that was sold for #2,000 ladies and gentlemen, my sister priced that product for #500 I was so ashamed. I didn't even know when I shouted, that the bargain was too much naw and the guy later sold it for #800. If you have a wife, give her money to buy the things she needs in the house. She might buy times 2 of what she wanted with the same money she has with her. Market people tend to cheat men because they know men don't know how to bargain.
And after that day I got the techniques of buying cheap from the market.

What goods do you prefer? Brand or service? Give your reasons.?

I don't have any specific good I prefer because as a human we need alot of things for our everyday life. Food, drink,cloths and so many things to make us keep us living.
We need every goods in the house for some reasons I know;

-Food:Food is essential for sustenance and provides the necessary nutrients for our bodies to function. Having a variety of food in the house ensures a balanced diet, supports overall health, and allows for meal preparation without constant trips to the store.

-Drinks:Drinks are important for staying hydrated and enjoying various beverages. Water is crucial for overall health, while other drinks like juices, milk, and teas can add flavor and nutritional value. Additionally, having a selection of drinks at home can enhance meals and provide options for different preferences.

-Kitchen equipment:Kitchen equipment is essential for preparing and cooking food efficiently. Basic items include pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, and utensils. Appliances like a stove, oven, microwave, and refrigerator are fundamental. Specialized tools, such as a blender or food processor, can also be useful for specific tasks

-Cleaning Supplies: To maintain a clean and organized living space.
-Clothing: Appropriate attire for various occasions and weather conditions. And so many other things to mention. So there is no specific thing to buy, we need alot to just shop for one thing.
