Choices! What will it be? #77

A beautiful greeting to everyone here on steemit. Thank you, @patjewell for creatively putting up these five choice words for this contest. For this contest I'll pick the word "Comfort"

Comfort is a feeling of relief, calmness and emotional support from grief, pain or distress.
It is a pleasant and satisfying feeling of warmth, either physically, mentally, financially etc.

Comfort is said to be like a succor or hug for the soul. It drives out despair and leaves one with a sense of hope.

Story! Story !

Every morning, when Nancy arose she felt a kind of emptiness that could not be measured. It was as though the silence in the room could literally be seen like a person, and it had built a mansion in her house.

The house which was once filled with activities, especially with her siblings' laughter, became so cold. These and many more reminded Nancy of losing her grandmother, who was the only mother figure in her years of existence.

Grandma Ivy, as she was always called, was the only pillar Nancy had while growing up and Nancy tried her best to keep her grandma alive, as she served grandma even in illness, but Alas! Grandma died right in Nancy's arms. Of course, it was really a depressing season for the household.

Nancy held her grief behind her eyes like dark clouds ready to pour forth and could not contain it. She kept wondering what would become of her as she sobbed.

Though other members of the family, who were much older than Nancy, tried their best to take up some responsibilities, none could fill up her grandmother's shoes.

As the days progressed into weeks and then into months, it was no longer news that Nancy was motherless, but then the pains had refused to subside, especially when Nancy had needs.

Then God came through! As Nancy channeled her hurts into service unto the Lord and God made sure to surround her with the right people, as those brethrens encouraged her even more in her new phase of independence.

She found comfort in reading as books became her route of escape, a place where she could lose herself and forget about the cares of the world. She would spend hours in her room, lost in the pages of a novel.

She also found it comforting to write because she could pour out her feelings on paper, and somehow, it made her feel better.

Her uncle suggested that she put her hands to work by learning a trade which was very agreeable to her. Nancy chose to learn fashion designing. This was a great deal of comfort because it gave her joy to see some beauties (clothes) she created for herself.

This development brought her to meet with many other people among whom she made good friends. Her favorite of them all was Debbie, a young girl around her age who was friendly and could relate to her grief as they could talk about their losses, their fears, and their dreams. She understood her pain, and for the first time in months, Nancy didn't feel so alone.

Nancy's family was slowly but surely healing as well. They were learning to live without Grandma Ivy, but her memories was always with them, guiding them, and also comforting them.

Though the pain was still there, it was not as before because Nancy learned to carry it with her, not as a burden, but as a part of herself. She continually writes on blogs about her life journey and experiences to bring comfort to people who are trying to heal from one hurt or the other.
