Beyond Birthgivers: Celebrating Women's Day in an Era of Equality
Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai once said, "We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back." This powerful statement given on International Women's Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and advocating for a gender equality.
For an extended duration, the surrounding women has been one of limitation. They were seen as the life-givers, the nurturers, confined to the domestic sphere. But this story doesn't recognize how much women have always helped, not just families, but all of society.
History is littered with examples of women fighting for their rightful place. It's a fight against outdated notions that relegated them to purely domestic roles, denying them the freedom and liberty that men enjoyed.
Yes, past eras dictated that physical strength was paramount for success, often pushing women into the shadows of industrial economies. But strength comes in many forms. Women, with their resilience and determination, have always shouldered the burden of raising families while quietly contributing to the unseen gears of society. The very idea that housework and childcare were "normal" for women, while downplaying their significance, is a testament to this historical imbalance.
My family incomple without women
It’s really Thankfully, we all have come to a long way from the dark days of practices like Sati or Sati Pratha. The world is changing a lot. Women can now do more than they used to. They are CEOs, astronauts, engineers, doctors, athletes - leading the charge in every field imaginable. This progress is a direct result of the tireless struggles of the past generations.
On this 8th March International Women's Day, let's celebrate all women's achievements, from those who break big barriers to everyday heroes like moms, daughters, and sisters or all female friends who break barriers in their own ways.
The battle for fairness isn't finished. Women still get paid less than men, and lots of women don't have the same chances for education and healthcare even the job opportunities. But things are changing.
Here's what we can do:
Challenge Stereotypes: Let's actively challenge the ingrained biases that hold women back. Encourage girls to pursue their dreams, regardless of societal expectations.
Invest in Education: Education is the key to empowerment. By ensuring equal access to education for girls, we unlock their potential and create a more equitable society.
Support Women-Led Businesses: Empowering women economically is crucial. Let's actively support businesses run by women and create a more inclusive environment in the workplace.
Celebrate Achievements: Let's amplify the voices and stories of successful women. By celebrating their achievements, we inspire future generations to reach for the stars.
International Women's Day is a day to acknowledge the progress made, but more importantly, a call to action. It's a day to pledge our commitment to creating a world where women are not just celebrated for giving birth to humanity, but for the immense contributions they make to every facet of life. Let's work together to ensure that Malala Yousafzai's vision of a world where everyone succeeds becomes a reality.
