Do you like animals, which of them are you afraid of?
Hi, fellow steemians. Best wishes in October. My gratitude to the organizer of this contest.
Yes, very well. I like animals. The one I am afraid of is a hyena.
Do you have any animals at home? Tell us about them.
Yes, the animals I have at home are dogs and cats. The dog is always at home whenever the house is empty. No one came close to the gate of the house when we were not around.
But once we arrive from work, it welcomes us and takes some work around the compound. It doesn't eat from anywhere and every plate unless the one that is meant for it.
It has a specific point of defecating, even though it is mostly in the morning when we wake up and open the gate.
Sometimes, I take a walk around the community with it. And it is always quiet whenever we are together. It doesn't bark unnecessarily.
I also have a cat. It's an enemy to the rat that doesn't allow me storage of grains. Sometimes, the cat will climb the ceiling to chase the rats, which disturbs the peace of the house.
The cat knows all the areas where rats disturb, and so patrols these areas in the house. Whenever I am around in the daytime, it's laid close to me, but once it's night, it goes to where it can hunt rats. Its presence in the house helps protect against the destruction by rats.
What anecdote do you have with any animal?
One of the anecdotes I have is with a dog, sometimes with a female dog when it gave birth.
The dog, despite our rapport, I dare not go close to its puppies. I only go close to them in it's absence. And only when the puppies were able to take some walks on their own to outside.
The dog at night is a tight security to the house. In the night, even as the master of the house or any member of the house, it will bark seriously before welcoming if coming to the house.
So, as a stranger, once it's night, people find it difficult to come close. It's always possible when any member of the house accompanies such a visitor to the house.
Are there animal protections in your country, that is, institutions that value them?
Yes, in Nigeria, there is animal protection by both the government of the country and private organizations.
The Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi State in the North East, and the Obudu cattle ranch in Cross Rivers State in Southern Nigeria. The Folgore Game Reserve in Kano in North West Nigeria, etc, where animals have freedom of life.
Hunting activities are prohibited by law in these areas. The areas serve as tourist centres.
Which animal do you not like and why?
I don't like hyenas. The reason is that it feeds on flesh. Once it escapes from the reserve, any domestic animal it comes into contact with becomes a story; even human beings, especially when hungry, are very aggressive.
In a nutshell, I have a dog and a cat in my house. They help to secure my properties.
Nigeria, as a government, values animals and so has some games reserved for them where hunting activities are prohibited by law.
The animal I am afraid of is a hyena. It feeds on flesh; therefore, any slight opportunity to escape from a zoo or reserve will be a trait of domestic animals.
This is my story for the day. And I would like to invite @josepha @vickyson and @ashley-p
