Let's talk about birthdays.

Being alive is to me the biggest privilege in life and worth thanking our creator. It is only when you are alive that you'll be able to celebrate birthdays. That's why, every moment I live is a great opportunity for me to celebrate it. Birthdays are the times we mark our birth anniversary. It means you were born on that date you're celebrating.

My birthday is always 10th May. I don't just have a choice of cake, but chocolate and sponge cakes are actually not for me. Apart from those two, I like other ones, especially with a vanilla flavour.

I would love to have a party in my ruby, golden, and other decades. All this while, it's been just a small celebration to thank God for my life. I don't go out on every anniversary of my birthdays. Sometimes, I used to be indoors.

That day, I used to wake up and sing worship to my God for preserving my life. Thanking him for the gift of life and other things in life. From there, my family usually gather to sing a birthday song and thereafter pray for me.

What I've done for some years now is to appear before God that day. In my local assembly, there used to be a worship program where I used to have the opportunity to sing and dance to God. This year, it fell on our outreach program, which I gladly joined the outreach and used that time to glorify God.

My most enjoyable birthday was last year. It was the best for me because my students at school gave me a surprise birthday celebration with gifts. I couldn't help but be moved to tears because it was astounding to me. It was one of its kind and I thank God.

The students arranged themselves and bought gifts individually. They even arranged to speak about my personality, how I've been caring and also being their best teacher. For me, it was just amazing. I've never been celebrated that way by anyone.

What I can never miss whenever I mark my birthday is to worship God. Against all odds, I must always render a heartfelt worship to God for keeping me. I will sing, raise my hands and also dance to express my gratitude to God for His blessings on my life. Except I have no money, I must always buy a gift for myself to mark the special day.

I still have the birthday presents my special student gave to me last year. It was a diary and body spray. Though the body spray had finished, I hadn't trashed the can of the body spray till now. That's not the only gift I've received for my birthday. That seems different. The student who gave me those items is blind. He chose me amongst all his teachers as his best teacher. That sounds good, and it really means so much to me as a person.

The gifts from my student

Yes, I do make wishes. For my birthday last year, I specifically asked for a surprise birthday gift. I wasn't specific. You know what? That very day I received a good sum of money I had never thought of. There was a scheme I applied to the federal government of my country, Nigeria, known as Npower in 2020. Ever since then, there has been no response from the government.

On 10th May 2023, which was my birthday, I was surprisingly paid for that scheme for 3 months. I was shortlisted without my knowledge. A message was sent to my email, but I didn't check. My surprise birthday gift, which I said as a wish and prayer, came to pass.

Birthday is the day on which we were born. It is a day we show gratitude to God for keeping us. There are many children who were born at the same time as you. Not all of them lived up to a year; they died. That's why, whenever it is my birthday, I take time to thank God for life and even pray for longevity, a better and beautiful life. My birthday post
