Introduction

Hi my special ladies, trust we're doing great? It feels good to be here once again. I just want to inform you of my mushroom farming journey so far. I remember in one of the "Choices! What will it be? A contest organised by our amiable lady @patjewell sometimes last year, I'd made a choice of mushroom. Link In the contest, I mentioned that I had the knowledge about mushrooms and that I'm looking forward to starting a little farm this year.

Preparation

So all this while, I have been on the process. That's why I just want to update you about how far we've gone so far. So far, I started by sourcing for funds, after which I started the purchase of items I'll be using.

The items I bought
  • Spade

  • Sawdust

  • Rice bran

  • Mushrooms seeds

  • Agriculture lime

  • Nylon bags

  • These I bought today*

  • PVC pipe

  • Rubber band

For two weeks, I mixed the sawdust, rice bran and the agricultural lime together. Due to lack of time, I couldn't bag the sawdust. So during the week, my trainer called to tell me that I should speed up my work so that the seed won't get spoilt. I was looking at how I was going to speed up the work, but God made it possible for me.

So last night, I got a message from my employer that the Governor of my state had declared 29th May a public holiday to mark his first year in office. That meant I wouldn't be going to school the following day, which is today, Wednesday. I was so excited knowing I was going to use the opportunity to work on my mushrooms.

Morning/Afternoon

In the morning, I went to the plumbing shop and bought a PVC pipe. The person who sold it helped me to cut it into tiny pieces with a little token offered to him. So, I came back home and began to bag the sawdust and rice bran I had mixed agricultural lime with. It was a tedious job, filling the bags well.

Evening

As I was still bagging, I remembered I was supposed to visit one of the biggest mushroom farms in my city to check something. I called the farmer, he said he was available. So I left the substrate and journeyed to the farm. It took me 25–30 minutes to get there.

At the Mushrooms Farm

I was amazed when I got there. I realised that he was not only a mushroom farmer, that he also grew crops. The farmer is a man in his seventies. I didn't just admire his farm but the strength he had. He gave me a warm welcome though we hadn't met before, as I went there based on a recommendation. After we exchanged greetings, I went round his house as I admired his strength. I went there and checked what I needed to check and I headed home.

It was just about mushrooms today. I told my kid brother, who helped me, that the holiday today was just for me based on all I've been able to achieve today in my mushroom farming.

There are still many things to be done. I promise I'll update you as we progress, until the mushrooms grow.

Hope to see the update coming because I would love to know and see how it goes. I don't like mushrooms but learning is not about liking but about knowledge. I would love to see the processes. All the best!

It so interesting to know that you can grow mushrooms I'm really impressed. The way things are I don't think some one can survive with the monthly salary again.

I'm happy for you. Thanks for the invitation

Thanks for the good wishes, I'm grateful.

You are welcome dear

This is very interesting but mushrooms are funghi so no seeds but... I hooe you'll succeed since it's good business and food. Do you have a dark humid place? Will you start with crops in bags too?
I love to read in some time how you are doing.

Yes it is fungi. I also have a dark and humid place. This is its season in my country as it is raining season here. I'll post every process as we progress.

Your comment is appreciated, ma'am.

I am looking forward reading about the process!
