Christmas is usually a beautiful season, it is a time when people celebrate God's faithfulness. During Christmas, many families and individuals have their own Christmas culture which is so special to them during this season. It is a privilege for me to participate in this contest. Growing up in my extended family, my uncles and aunts would travel back home. It's usually a family reunion where different kinds of special meals are cooked, sharing of gifts and visitation to other family members. That's still in practice till today.

During Christmas, I remember that exchange of gifts was a special event, a time of laughter, happiness and show of love for one another.

During Christmas, my family usually cooks all manner of food. These meals are cooked differently but with agreement on what type of meal to cook to avoid having excess of a particular meal. Basically, these meals are usually traditional meals and very special for the season.

The list is endless. We will gather at the family compound, eat and drink, serve all our visitors assorted drinks and food all day till the day is over. But, I personally eat nsok-nsok efere ndek iyak ye ufiop garri.

What I love most about Christmas is the exchange of gifts and the show of love to people. I love to hear the sound of Christmas. That's the carols. Those carols usually make me feel so cool and happy even without being given anything. For me, it's usually the sound of good news and goodwill.

Also, the cooking of different meals and having to meet all our family members usually bring a sense of bond, unity and togetherness.

Oh yes, the getting together and exchanging of gifts as a family makes my Christmas usually memorable. Unwrapping different gifts from family members is usually a fun and happy time.

What we can't miss on Christmas Eve is the church worship where we gather in the evening from 9pm-12am. It is believed that this gathering is to keep awake to welcome the baby Jesus. It is a traditional belief that has been in practice till now.

Apart from that, all the food items that will be used to cook in the morning are usually prepared on Christmas Eve. For instance, goats and chickens that will be used for cooking will be slaughtered and dressed for the next day cooking before or after the church service.

Oh yes, I still do that till now. Whenever we're back from church, I go straight and on the TV. I can sit there to watch movies till I'm tired. Now that I have children, I watch movies with them in our room, while others may choose to be in the living room till we get tired and go back to sleep for a few hours and then wake up to cook.

I love the Christmas season. It is my favourite season so far. The love, peace and joy I feel during this period is unquantified. That's why I love Christmas.
