Hello everyone i'm so delighted to participate in this weeks contest in Steem for ladies community. Thanks to our dear moderator @patjewell for every week contest. I know this is my first time in this contest but yet i'm mostly fascinated on one of the topic out of the five choice topic to choose and my desire topic is "Magnet"

Below are the few things i know about a magnet.

A magnet is said to be any object which possess the ability to draw to itself unlike poles and like poles. It also has the capability of producing magnetic field.

A magnet possesses so many unique properties such as the following:

• If a magnet is put into a container which has iron filling inside,the filling will immediately attach to the head of the magnet because the force of attraction in the magnet is greater at the head of it. This head is often referred to as the magnetic poles.

• When two magnet are placed close to each other,the force of magnetism between the two of them will be greater due to the lesser distance between them.

• Its magnetic poles are usually of two types which is the north pole and the south pole. This quality makes it attract unlike poles and repels like poles that is to say that south pole will repel south pole while it will attract north pole

Magnets are divided into;

👉 permanent

👉 electromagnet and

👉 Temporary magnets.

The permanent magnet is the most common type of magnet. It has the ability to still retain its magnetic property even after it was magnetized. If you want a permanent magnet to loose its magnetic ability,you can either break it with a hammer into pieces,expose it to unfavourable weather condition or rubbing it against another magnet.

The temporary magnet has a lesser magnetic force compared to the permanent magnet. It usually looses its ability to magnet when their magnetic field is removed. Example of a temporary magnet is the paper clip and an iron nail.

An electromagnet is a type of magnet which is achieved by electric current. It is produced when a wire is wound into a coil shape and then electricity is passed through it.

There are various uses of magnets.

Magnet can be used at home, at work and even in your car. For instance:-

• If you have an iron filling mistakenly poured into a container consisting of other solid substances,don't panic just pick a magnet and out it inside the container and the iron fillings will immediately attach to the body of the container

• If your freezer or refrigerator door is having difficulty closing tight, just attach a magnet with a north pole on the body of the freezer where the door is supposed to make connection with it,then attach a magnet with a south pole on the freezer door, when you close it because of its ability to attract like pole, the north pole on the body of the freezer will attract the south pole on the door making it tight.

• A magnet can also be used in making a magnetic knife rack which is a long piece of material with magnetic properties which is mounted on the wall of the kitchen. When the knife is brought close to it,it will magnet to it because of the metal part of the knife. It is very convenient to use because you can easily take it off the strip without having to drag it.

• In the case of ornament and jewellery some bracelet and necklace has magnet attached to the end to clip it together around the wrist and neck. For some people that has not pierced their ears,magnetic earring is also available for them in which you just put one piece at the front and the magnetic piece at the back and it will stick together.

• Magnet can also be used in recycling of waste material. When metal and wood or bottle is trashed together,using a magnet will make it easier to remove the metal from the other constitute of the trash

I would recommend every home to have a magnet because of its awesome uses
