A Peep Into The Last Few Weeks of My Life

Hello beautiful steemians. Greetings to you all.
Due to some reasons I couldn't handle properly, I unavoidably went MIA but I'm over that and I'd like to document it briefly.

Few months ago, in partial fulfillment of my academic pursuit and degree, I had to embark on a 6 months Industrial Attachment in order to bridge the gap between practical and theory. This is a requirement in tertiary institutions in Nigeria for all professional courses.

Due to delay in finalising the previous semester, we started the program later than expected. Fortunately I already found an establishment so when the time came, I went there to commerce my attachment. This period was more of site work, building construction and a bit of CAD design. It was a wonderful experience.

During this period, I got introduced to this platform and well I can say it's been a great discovery and wonderful experience. I've had to explore communities, blogs and my interest. Well until few weeks ago.

On the first week of the sixth month of my Industrial Attachment, I got information that we will be having a defence in few days (about 6 days) to finalise the IT. You can imagine how shocked I was. Few days notice really? These things take some weeks so people can properly prepared. It was sudden for everyone especially since there are procedures to be followed like completing the log book, getting signatures, writing a report and preparing a slide presentation, not to mention the money aspect of it. But their decision was final and we had to act accordingly.

So on the third day which was on a Monday, I started typing my report. This took me until Wednesday to complete it and print, ready to present the next day. In the report, I documented in relevant details all the activities and experiences I had gained during the IT with picture. And I had a friend help with the power point presentation since I'm not good at it. Still a day to the D-day.

How the urgency affected me

I did have lot of plans while anticipating the defense. Like for example, I wanted to braid my hair beautifully, sew a dress for myself, get cooperate footwear and other things. Like I couldn't do any. I already made a simple hairdo like a week before the update. And the dress, I was hoping to match colours but I had just one of the colour available. After cutting out what I had, I realised that I won't be able to meet up with sewing the dress and typing a report so I suspended sewing and just decided to buy ready-made.

Before this time, I couldn't really come up with post here on steemit. It felt like a brain block or writers block as I hear people call it. I couldn't go beyond the introduction in the few contest I tried to join. So when I was aware of the defense date, My focus was drawn to my academic requirement as I had to give my best.

That same week, I think Tuesday evening, I got a message from a translator I work with to assist in translating a job he got. Deadline was in about 2 weeks. I told him I'll be unavailable until Thursday and will start on Friday. He agreed so there, I had a pending task waiting to be attended to after the defense. With all that, I thought to but a break here until I'm over all the task so I can be well focused.

So Thursday came and I prepared and headed to school. Mom got me a gown the day before while I wore my regular flats with my simple hairdo. Got to school a bit early, got my PowerPoint presentation and printed the slides. Normally we use a projector to present, but my supervisor insisted we print just in case there's no power supply, the hardcopy comes in.

Well the hardcore presentation came in really handy because my juror was a bit impatient and refused to wait to the projector to be set. So as the second person on the list, I had to present the hardcopy of the slide, my report and my log book and speak about it and every experience gathered. I actually think it's better than presenting with a projector as I was able to speak more confidently on a one-on-one basis and answered all questions without feeling tense. In left than 15 minutes I was done and had to wait for the second juror and she was running late. Around afternoon, I was done with everything.

I tried to take pictures but on this day, my confidence was quite low. I wasn't comfortable, felt camera shy, and didn't find any of my closest friends around to snap with. Got back home and was grateful to be over that phase.

The next day, started the translation as plan. Had to hurry a bit as deadline was almost due and I also got an order to sew and delivery before month end. And I didn't want to disappoint either of the two. Fortunately, I was able to meet up with my deadline without disappointing. This took me about 3 weeks to finalize. I would love to share pictures of the dress I made, but unfortunately I do not have a mannequin to model the dress and my client finds it difficult sending pictures of her on dresses I make to me, and I can't insist. When I'm paid in full, I'm good.

After successfully finalizing all that, it's safe to say I'm back. That I'm able to type all this means my head is clear now and any other thing that comes up, I can easily manage properly. That's all that happened until the 30th of September. Delivered the dress on 28th.

Then about the dress I expected to wear for my defense, I'll still make it as soon as I'm able to find the desired fabric to match it with.

Thank you for reading to this point.
Do have a wonderful day.
