Motherhood

Motherhood can be exhausting. There's really no amount of preparations that can prepare any woman for what's coming.

When I was much younger, I use to have this clear narrative of the kind of parenting I was going to give my children from the day of their birth.

Thinking about it now, I am laughing so hard. Little wonder my mother use to just look at me and not say anything. The saying that Experience is the best teacher is the simplest way I can narrow down the entirety of motherhood.

Currently, I have two kids, 17months and 7months old respectively. My life has changed. My narratives have changed. In fact, to be candid, everything has changed. Nothing remains the same. Some days, I wake up full of energy, on other days, I wake up completely drained. The laughter and Joy is resounding. There is always a rhythm and a cord playing in my heart. And then also, comes the frustrations.

The pressure to identify my children's needs per time, to figure out what every fuzz is about, doesn't just weaken by body, It drains me mentally too. In my case, I have no form of help, I nurture these Irish twins myself and to say that I'm exhausted is an understatement.

Some days, I want to go back to being a single lady and having all the time to myself. I haven't honoured invitations in the last almost 2years of my life. I use to judge mothers then who would not attend my events or even oblige my invitations for just a sit out. I remember being so furious about one of my friends not attending my wedding because she had to look after her kids. Now, I count it a rare honour to have any nursing mother even spend the least of 10mins with me.

I won't even begin to talk about the bodily changes that came with motherhood and the permanent scars. But in all, my children are the best gifts of my life. I still will live my best life and go wherever I want to go. But right now, the most important thing is raising these beautiful little humans into the finest young men society would ever see.

And this is me extending the warmest hugs to every mother. You're doing an amazing job and God will bless you for it. Our sacrifices will not be in vain. One step at a time.
