Rise and shine, steemian!
It is a new month - my birth month, actually - and this fills my heart with so much joy, and happiness.

Today feels different.

I could link this to waking up about 2 hours behind time. But then, it's weekend and everyone misses their alarms – forgive me if I am wrong. 🤭

So, I stayed in bed all day, reading Steemit posts and scrolling through my social media feeds. Bad habit (in my mom's voice). Maybe not so bad because not only did it make me doze off again, but it also filled my tummy that I didn't worry about food until midday.

Stepping Out.

Believe me, it is not good for a person to spend all day indoors. So, I got dressed in the evening to take a stroll around my street.

I discovered that exposing myself to sunlight not only regulates my internal clock (what we also call, circadian rhythm) but it boosts my mood as well.

Simply put, I feel happier when I spend some time outdoors.

Psychologists say it's because the brains releases more serotonin into the bloodstream when the body is expose to natural light. They call this hormone a mood-boosting neurotransmitter for this reason.

But I think it is more than that.

I think the sight of the sky does something magical to me. It speaks words of wisdom to me.

It is for this reason that I began sky-watching on 3 January when the earth experienced a rare phenomenon - the Moon-Venus conjunction.

Captured on 4 January 2025. The Moon and Venus are wide apart now. They were closer the day before while still on a straight line.

It broke my heart when I missed that of 29 January where 5 planets aligned in the sky. But then, we need not worry about the past when we can create more delightful memories in the present.

I see the sky, the sky sees me!

I passed by so many nature-related things that made me "ooh" and "aah". However, my focus was on the sky.

Found this huge black bird flying lonely in the sky. The text is a poem I used to recite back then in kindergarten

My eyes followed a flock of birds as they flew towards my direction and over my head. We call them lekeleke here. I thought fondly of the moments I'd sing, "Lekeleke, give me white fingers." Those superstitions worked somehow because I'd always wake up with beautiful white spots on my nails. The white dots usually looked a bird flying across the sky.

The colours of the sky! Photo captured with my phone's lens.

I am back now. As I write this diary, my mind still thinks of the sky. I believe it is our friend. Is it true that the sky spends every moment watching us? Does its soft voice reassure you that the sun would come out tomorrow? Has the sky ever spoken to you?
