Hi steemians,

We use drugs to cure some kinds of illnesses in our bodies so that we can stay fit and look healthy all the time. I would like to participate in this contest titled: Health Matters; (Painkillers)

What are painkillers?

Painkillers, also called pain medicine, are the kind of drugs used by the patient in order to relieve their pain. People use painkillers after a long time of stress they encounter in their workplace. Taking these drugs in the right direction gives us the ability to stand on our feet so that we can carry out our daily tasks.

What do you think are the most common reasons people use painkillers?

As a human being, we fall sick and different drugs are available to tackle this health issue. Pain relievers are used to treat internal and external pain in our body system such as:

1. Injury: Painkillers help us reduce the pain from major accidents or minor accidents that happen to us, whether inside our house or on the road.

2. Headaches: People use painkillers, especially paracetamol tablets, to relieve headaches that may occur due to heavy workloads.

3. Rheumatism: This is another reason why people take drugs. This usually occurs in those who experience joint or muscle pain. Once they use pain medicine, it will reduce the health problem.

We have many reasons why people use painkillers to treat themselves. These medicines are available in different brands, and their prices are not the same. Some people prefer to buy costly drugs because they believe they work faster than cheaper ones.

How do you feel about the difference between over-the-counter painkillers and prescription ones?

Over-the-counter, also called OTC, are drugs obtained from a retail store without a doctor's prescription, while prescription drugs are prescribed to patients by healthcare practitioners after they have carried out some tests. They are usually in written form.

I prefer going to the hospital and being attended to by doctors or nurses so I may be able to know what kind of sickness I may have. Buying painkillers over the counter can sometimes be risky because you may be attended to by a quack doctor who may give you the wrong prescription. If care is not taken, it may cause damage to your body.

Can you think of any natural alternatives to painkillers that people might use?

We have different beliefs when it comes to treatment. Some people believe that natural painkillers can help them overcome various types of body pain and other similar cases.

Package of shea butter inside the plastic

Shea butter has been used for a long time to relieve joint pain, back pain, and so on. There are also reports confirming that shea butter works effectively for stomach pain, particularly when consumed in raw form or added to Ogi, also known as pap, and can prevent other health challenges.

Daily exercise helps our bodies fight chronic pain, so we should try to exercise regularly on a daily basis.

Additionally, cloves are mostly used because they contain eugenol, which helps reduce muscle pain we are experience.

What do you think are the risks of using painkillers too often?

Excessive use of painkillers is too risky and can lead to serious health issues

1. Liver and kidney damage: Excessive use of pain medicine can damage these important organs in our body, especially if the person continues using the drug for a long period of time.

2. Stomach ulcers: Pain relievers like ibuprofen can cause ulcers if the patient takes an overdose.

3. Deafness: Continuous intake of painkillers can result in hearing problems which will affect your communication process.

4. Addiction: Some people misuse pain medicine and in the process, they become addicted to the drug.

Pain is not man's best friend. We must try to treat ourselves in order to look healthier and feel happy always. I will like to invite @mainuna, @shano49 and @richy20 to join me in this contest.
