INTRODUCTION

It has been several years seeing the hausas carrying what I never knew is a healthy fruit called Dabino fruits at every corner in the city. They often carry it together with theTigger nut on the wilbarrow. But all those years I have been wondering what sort of fruits they carry every time. Little did I know that this dry brown fruit is enriched with numerous healthy nutrients good for the body.
History has it thatDabino fruits popularly known as date fruits, originated from two countries namely, Egypt and Mesopotamia, and having the botanical names as phonex dacylifera. The mother tree is the date palm tree.

Discovering the health benefits of the date fruits, there is now a massive production and consumption of the fruits in Africa, the Asia and the Middle East. But the major countries producing Dabino are Sudan, Senegal, and the sahel.

In Nigeria, the northern part of the country like kaduna, sokoto, kano, are also involved in the production of dates fruits.

USES OF THE DATE FRUITS

When fresh, the date fruits colors purple or turns golden yellow, but turns dark brown when dry. These fruits could be savored in different ways like:

  • Cookies
  • Savory cooking
  • Eaten fresh or dry
  • For candy foods
  • For sweet foods etc.
Types Of Dates (Dabino)

The date fruits are sweet in nature and are nutritious as well. They grow on the date palm trees and appear in different types. Some types of the date fruits include the:

  • Halawi
  • Deglet noor
  • Barhi
  • Medjool and
  • Khadrawy

Among them all, the medjool is regarded as the the king of the dates. This might be because they are largest type and are Soft with tasty flavor.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF DATES(Dabino)

Dates are sweet and flavory with essential nutrients. The medjool and deglet noor are the varieties that are popularly consumed.

Dates are rich with antioxidants and fiber with the health benefits of supporting the brain and combating diseases. Some of the health benefits of Dabino or date fruits includes:

  • High in antioxidants:
    Dates contains flavonoids, phenolic acids, and carotenoids which help to reduce inflammation, diabetes, promoting heart health, reducing eye disorders, and may help to reduce the risk of cancer.

  • Supports Brain health:
    Dates may stop or prevent plaques and inflammation that could form in the brain . It has a brain boosting properties that because of the antioxidants that reduces inflammation.

  • Dates are best healthy substitute for white sugar as it contains fiber, and natural sweet taste.

  • Supports Bone Health:
    Dates or Dabino has minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus that combats bone associated disorders.

  • Helps in Blood Sugar Control:
    Dates or Dabino helps in regulation of blood sugar because of their little glycemic index, antioxidants and fiber. Consuming them reduces the risk of diabetes.

CONCLUSION

From the foregoing it could now be observed that dates or Dabino are very essential fruits to incorporate into the daily or weekly fruits consumption menu. They are cheap and available at any where when needed.

Due to their numerous health benefits, it is not a fruit that should be ignored. So do fix a date with date fruits and your health would remain more better than it used to be.
