TUBERCULOSIS
Hello lovelies 😍! Let me tell you what I know about tuberculosis. When I was younger, say about eight years old, my cousin had this challenge. Tuberculosis have existed for many years even before I was born. I learnt that it was first recorded in ancient Egypt around 1550 BCE. It is believed to have evolved from a soil- dwelling bacterium that infected animals.
In my community it is called "akpaikpai ikong". It is not the regular cough that people have but a severe and painful kind of cough. It is classified as an airborne disease which can be transferred from one person to another. Someone can also contact this disease by touching contaminated surfaces or objects that are infected with this bacteria.
PREVALENCE, INCIDENCE AND PROGNOSIS
Tuberculosis have prevailed for a long period of time and have affected over 1 billion people globally. Cases of tuberculosis are recorded across the globe. During the time my cousin was suffering from this ailment, we were isolated from him to avoid us contacting the disease.
Tuberculosis is not a deadly disease as it can be treated with proper medical attention. However, it took my cousin about 11 months to be cured from this disease. So I believe that tuberculosis can be cured in a period of 6 to 12 months. If not properly managed and treated, tuberculosis can lead to respiratory failure, heart problems or even death.
HOW TO KNOW YOU HAVE TUBERCULOSIS
It is important to know when you have signs of this disease so that you can treat it properly. Most of us like to treat ourselves at home without running test or making inquiry from the doctor.
My dear, please whenever you have this cough that last longer than usual and comes with chest pain, fatigue, night sweats, coughing up blood, loss of appetite and also fever please visit the doctor for proper checkup and treatment.
PREVENTION IS BETTER
As far as our body and health is concerned, to prevent falling sick is better than treatment. We have possible majors to prevent ourselves from having tuberculosis. Improving ventilation in our house and notes, it must be quality air and not polluted air. I've learnt that cleanliness is next to Godliness so practicing good hygiene is also a means of preventing tuberculosis or any other infections.
In conclusion, our health matters a lot so we should be careful and keep our environment as clean as possible to avoid contacting deadly infections.
