Hello family, I am delighted to share in this week contest titles kidneys. I will be sharing my own points on the definition of kidney, it's importance to the human body, it's structures and functions, then I will show my drawing of it.

DEFINITION OF THE WORD KIDNEY


Kidney is a organ in the human body which makes the filtration of waste body products possible and are removed as urine from the body.

Kidneys can also be said to be the body's washing machine because it helps to filters the waste products found in the body.

Kidneys are located in the ribcage at the back of every mammals, reptiles and birds, it has a bean-liked shape.

IMPORTANCE OF KIDNEYS TO THE HUMAN BODY


Kidneys play a very important roles in the human body:

  • it helps to excrete waste products from the blood with the help of numerous structures.

  • It helps many substances in the human body to be controlled.

  • It helps in the balancing of blood pressure.

  • Kidneys send out acid that the body cells produce which inturn kelps to maintain a proper balance of salt, minerals and water.


STRUCTURES OF KIDNEYS


  • Renal column

  • medullary pyramid

  • calyx

  • renal artery

  • renal vein

  • pelvis

  • ureter

  • renal capsule

  • cortex.

Kidneys have a fist like size which are surrounded by a renal capsule, there are two fat layers which helps to protect the kidney and provides support for the tissues inside.

On top the kidney lie the adrenal glands , inside are pyramid shaped lobes which have the outer renal cortex and the inner renal medulla,in between is the nephrons which has a filter called glomerulus and tubules.

This glomerulus go through the kidneys by renal arteries and exit through renal veins. The urine are excreted through the ureter and passes to the bladder and finally sent out from the body.


FUNCTIONS OF THE KIDNEYS


  • Kidneys aids in the filtration of unwanted substances from the human body.

  • It removes metabolic waste such as urea and uric.

  • It secretes Erythropoietin, Renin and Calcitriol.

  • It helps to absorbs bicarbonate which helps to control the acid base balance in the body.

  • It controls the water level and salt level causing the body to send it out as sweat through the pituitary gland.
