- Have you ever experienced a road traffic injury? If yes then when and where?
Yes, I have ever experienced road traffic injury. Two years ago in the year 2022 to be precise, I was knocked down by a vehicle at Jos road in Akwanga Nasarawa State while I was going to my workplace in the morning on my motorcycle.

How the accident happened. The car was trying to overtake my motorcycle while there was an oncoming vehicle on the other side of the road and unfortunately for me, there was no footpath (Shoulder) for me to step down. Therefore, the vehicle behind me knocked me and threw me off the road.
As a result of the accident, I sustain some bruises on my body and a serious hit on my left ankle. The motorcycle too had a problem with its gear liver and parts of the plastic on the motorcycle got broken.
-What were the primary precautions you took right after getting a road injury?
- When I realised that I had an accident, I first of all ensured that I was not on the main road to avoid being knocked down by another oncoming vehicle.
- I checked my leg to be sure that the pain in the leg was not a fracture because the pain was severe at that sport.
- Individuals at the scene of the accident assisted by tying a clean handkerchief on my angle to stop or reduce the flow of blood from the injury sustained.
- I immediately went to a pharmaceutical store in the next village where the wounds and bruises were dressed. I also received an anti-tetanus injection and a few drugs to take.
-How many road accidents can be severe?

Road accidents can be severe depending on some factors which are:
- Speed of the vehicle or motorcycle
- Position of the passengers
- Refusal to use seat belts/healmate and so on.
The severity of road accidents can cause death, fractures, and injuries which may be permanent or curable. it can also cause amnesia. But the point here is that road accidents can be avoided if the following measures can be taken:
- Ensure that your vehicle is checked and is in perfect condition before embarking on a journey
- Observe and obey all road signs.
- Avoid overspeeding.
In conclusion, when we are on the road whether we are traking or in a vehicle, let us take caution so we can avoid road accidents.
