🍺 When can we say that a person is an alcoholic? Give reasons for your answer!

A person do not become alcoholic in a day. It starts with a small portion of drink for fun! As alcohol affect the brain and impaired the function of brain, after consumption of alcohol person feel relax and his/her reaction time become slower. To achieve this mental state, he increases the frequency and quantity of alcohol consumption. Talking biologically alcohol cases some changes in the release of neurotransmitter like Dopamine which causes euphoria and relaxation but at the same time excessive dopamine release causes tolerance also.

Continue consumption of alcohol develops such changes in the brain and a person become habitual of that. A person who do not consume alcohol on regular basis and there is no withdrawal symptoms visible, then we can not say a person alcoholic. On the other hand, a person whose body started to develop the negative effect of alcohol like tremors, sweating, nausea, or anxiety can be considered an alcoholic.

🍺 Is every drinker considered an alcoholic?

Just consuming alcohol doesn't make anybody an alcoholic. A person who drink in a limit and his/her drinking habit doesn't cause any negative impact on health or his socio-economic status can't be categorized as an alcoholic. Alcohol consumption only leads to alcoholism when a person become unable to stop consumption of alcohol despite developing its negative consequences. E.g. even social and economic status of any drinker is deteriorating despite that he is unable to stop drinking, then it is a sign that he is becoming an alcoholic.

Conclusion

Overall, alcohol is a social evil. Some people may argue that there is no harm in drinking alcohol within limits. But the drinker crosses this limit without even realizing it and it becomes a problem.

It's great hearing from a health personnel about such a topic, I'd speak from a lay man point of view but compared to yours I'd learn a lot just like now I've learnt that drinking alcohol for the very first time makes you an alcoholic and that alcoholism starts from taking a sip of alcohol and progressively falling into the well of alcoholism.

Thanks for sharing sir.
