Caring for other people should be a clarion call of nature and when this is done, the world would be a better place. Caring for others is a lovable and peaceful gesture that should tame hate and unrest among the people.

Have you played the role of caregiver or do you know someone who has put it into practice? Tell us about it.

I have been directly involved in giving a caregiver role before now. It was an inevitable task that came and all I had to do was to do it with all love and kindness that followed it. Sometimes, we tend to be our best when it has to do with our loved ones.

My dad out from the blues, gradually lost his sight and it happened I was the only one with them. My other siblings do come and go due to their jobs and because I was working in the same town where they stay and still single, I had to carry on with the task.

But it was a bit easier for me since he was already conversant with the apartment and everything that was in it. So moving around was a lot easier for him. So the other little care I did was to make sure his meals were well served and on time too. Even when everyone has left the house, his meals are served in a food flask to retain their hotness.

It was good caring for him and it was best seeing whom you care for appreciate your kind gesture. It boosts your morale and eagerness to do more. Since it was a bloodline affair, I was bound to tolerate anything and I knew this would equip me for the future.

Do you think that caring for a sick person should be a team effort or the work of a single person?

In my case, that was not necessary as I was the only one doing that except when my siblings were around for a visit. My mom was also there too to help out maybe when I'm out for work.

It does not matter if it is singularly or collectively done. The only advantage that comes with teamwork is that it reduces the workload to be done and also improves speed and efficiency.

What qualities do you think a caregiver should have?

Some of the qualities good caregiver personnel should have are no other but those that are centered on positive personal display gestures. These include;

• Having Empathy for who care is given
• Be patient enough to handle them
• Lovable and subtle while speaking to them
• Diligent Humble enough to see them as humans and not less of that
• Good time manager with high precision in handling routines

What advice would you give to a person who is performing this role?

My advice to anyone performing the caregiver role is that these above-mentioned qualities are some of the basis to keep you going. Whether it is out of our will to carry out this role or not, we should be able to do that with kindness and for the sake of humanity.

Sometimes, we may not be appreciated for carrying out this role, but we should be steadfast and diligent in doing it. Sometimes, the reward for this doesn't come immediately when it is for charity or to loved ones. Therefore, we should be long-suffering to withstand the shortcomings that come with it.

Conclusion

Caregiver roles are called to humanity and not just to the person who receives the care. A word of care is a word of love and peace. The world would be a place to be if we continue to care for those who need us.
