What are the main blood types and how do we know which one we have?

There are four types of blood groups which are Group A, B, AB, and O. These blood groups are determined by the genes individuals inherit from their parents and any of the blood groups could be either RhD positive or RhD negative, RhD which means a protein that is found on the surface of the red blood cells.

The only way that one can know his or her blood group is to visit the hospital, the doctor or laboratory scientist will take a sample of blood for an experiment to know which blood group one belongs to, and at the end of the experimental, the outcome of the result will determine the type of blood group you belong to.

Why is it important to know our blood type?

There are conditions that humans fall victim to, like accidents, blood transfusion, and marriage that require humans to know their blood group and it is also important that individuals know their blood group before those incidents will occur to avoid the consequences of risk attached to it.

How do blood types affect our health and why do they matter in medical treatments?

Blood type can affect our health in several ways, people with blood type A, have a higher risk of heart disease while people with blood type O have a lower risk of evolving blood globs.

Blood type matters a lot in medical treatment such that the blood type a person is receiving must closely match the blood type of that person's own, the essence is that if the blood that a person is receiving does not match with the person's own, the immune system will see the donated red blood cells as foreign which automatically can cause a problem of hitch and lost of life.

Why are some people considered to be universal blood donors while others can receive blood from only a few?

In specific, people with blood group O negative are called universal donors because their donated red blood cells have no A, B, or Rh antigens and can be safely given to people of any group.

Blood group O negative is safe to donate blood to any type of the blood group, irrespective of the blood type.
