Greetings erudite Steemians @helengutier2 has made us cross paths again via this unique contest that revolves around the teeth. The teeth happens to be one of the most important and essential components of the human body. It gives shape to the face, helps in chewing and grinding of food and as well helps in biting. These essential features makes the teeth an important component as such, there is a greater need to ensure it effective functioning. This work intends to present Endodontics which is one of the branches of dentistry that is responsible for the total well-being of the teeth.

Endodontics refers to a vital branch of dentistry which specializes on the diagnosis and treatment of the dental pulp as well as it's surrounding tissues related problems. To make things easier, it focuses on bringing to life tooth or teeth that has been severely damaged as a result of trauma, severe infection or decay to mention but a few.

This technique operates based on the removal of the infected pulp that situates inside the tooth so as to enhance the effectiveness of the root canal treatment. In Endodontics, the removed infected pulp is cleaned and sealed to avoid further infections.

Endodontics as a branch of dentistry extents it tentacles beyond root canals and covers cracked teeth treatment, as well as the treatment of failed previous root canal through a process known as Endodontics retreatments. Other vital areas of Endodontics includes the apicoectomy which as to do with the removal of the tip of a tooth root.

Aside from the aforementioned, Endodontics also handles dental trauma, such as rebranding a knocked out or fractured teeth by ensuring that they are restored rather than removing them. Before this time it used to be a very painful exercise untill the advent of technology which now makes it to be more precised and less painful

On about three occasions, I have had deep experiences on the root canal treatment. Though the experiences are what I don't wish for myself, Two things were common among the three people and that is the fact that it came with lots of pains and discomfort prior to the treatment. However, one thing was sure, and that is the fact that the pains after the treatment was not even up to a quarter of the pains they felt before the treatment.

For instance three years ago my little cousin had severe toothache that barrier him from eating solid food. I could recall how he felt hunger coupled with the fact that she hardly sleep at nights due to pains. After proper medical diagnosis, he was recommended to have a root canal treatment.

Before the treatment, we were so afraid especially due to the misconception we all had about this process. However, after the session, she told me "Cousin, I am alive". I could perceived that she has an immediate relieve from pains. This experience further convinced us of the fact having and keeping our natural tooth was in no way to be compared with loosing it.

Before this time, Endodontics used to be a very tedious task until the advent of technology which came with the birth of a more and better ways of making treatment more effective.

One of such ways Is the use of an advanced instrument called Dental operating microscope and magnified devices. These equipment are highly useful to the Endodontists as the bring to vision intricate information on the root canal especially those which would not have been noticed with the sharpest human eyes. Through this equipment, precision is secured and this has played a significant role in the accuracy of treatment thus avoiding reinfection.

Another specialized equipment in this field of study is the rotatory endodontic instruments. This motor like driven file has helped in fastening the process and making the treatment more flexible when compared to the route traditional method which was easily prompt to error. This instrument enhanced an error free treatment thus, encouraging root canal patients for comfortable and assured.

In other to have a more effective and detailed view of the tooth, the 3D imaging technology such as a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is always employed by the Endodontists. This instrument allows for better view and as such promote effective diagnosis and treatment planning when compared to the traditional method. These advancement in Endodontics has really changed canal treatment to a more comfortable and exciting field to the Endodontists and for patients who need their services.

To be very honest, before my knowledge of Endodontics, I would always want a damaged tooth to be removed completely. However, with my knowledge of Endodontics especially in regards the advancement in technology, If I had a choice to make between saving or extracting a tooth, I would gladly choose to save it over and over again. My reasons centres on the fact that no matter how effective and glittering artificial tooth may look, the natural tooth is irreplaceable in terms of aesthetics, functioning and Effectiveness.

In addition, the consequences of extracting a tooth is one which may leave an indelible mark that posterity may hardly forget. This is stem to that fact when a tooth is removed,the surrounding teeth are always altered and may lead to a more serious consequence in the nearest future and one of such consequences is the jaw bone deterioration.

Meanwhile, well performed root canal especially with the use of advanced tools can preserve a tooth for long period of time allowing the bearer to use his or her teeth just like every other normal person. They can chew, smile and bite naturally. However, in situations where an individual tooth is beyond repair, I would have no other option than to opt in for the total extraction then followed by a dental implant.
