An Overview of Lung Cancer
Lung cancer happens when abnormal cells in the lungs grow uncontrollably thereby forming tumors. Lung cancer is the major cause of cancer-related death across the world which is subdivided into two groups such as; small cell lung and non-small cell lung cancers
Symptoms:
The symptoms of lung cancer can vary depending on the health status of one. Although the most common symptoms of lung cancer include the following:
Chest pain: One usually feels discomfort in the chest, back, or shoulders.
Respiratory Problems: There is usually persistent coughing of blood, cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath.
Systemic Symptoms: There is usually an unexplained loss of weight, loss of appetite to eat, or fatigue.
Causes
The major causes of lung cancer include the following:
Smoking: About 80 percent of people suffer lung cancer are a result of smoking.
Environmental Pollution: Too much exposure to air pollution can cause lung cancer.
Exposure to Carcinogens: Industrial chemicals Pollution, radon gas, arsenic,, and asbestos can cause lung cancer.
Chronic Lung Diseases: Conditions such as tuberculosis, or COPD can trigger lung cancer.
Genetic Factors: Family history can also be a cause of lung cancer.
Treatment:
The treatment for lung cancer includes the following:
Surgery: Surgery can be carried out in the early stage to remove the affected part.
Radiation Therapy: High energy rays can be used to target and destroy cancer cells.
Chemotherapy: One can take drugs to kill cancer cells.
