I am very thankful to organisers of this learning challenge who gave all of us a good opportunity to learn about some of the emergency procedures and some of life saving skills. So this is I am going to explain that how I will act as a first responder and how I will play my role in giving basic first aid as a first responder.

Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills

Travel is part of daily life for every person it respective of economics status. If someone is rich then still he have to travel or if someone is poor then still he also have to travel so travelling is in our daily life and we see different road accidents while travelling. Sometimes because of any carelessness we can also become a part of traffic accident and this is not surety that at the time of accident there will be people around us or not so we should be very well aware about our personal safety If in case we get victim of a traffic accident.

My age is around 33 years but if I move back 10-12 years ago when I was a teenager at around 21 years of my life then I became victim of an accident and at that time even I was quite sensible that how to handle a situation if someone get victim of a traffic accident so I fell down while going to University from my motorbike and I get injury at my lower part.

Bleeding from my leg started but I had a polythene bag with me in which I kept my food so at that time I have an idea that definitely if there is bleeding at any area of your body then you have to apply pressure depending upon severity of bleeding.My bleeding was not too much little (Which can be controlled by applying pressure from fingers)not too much more (Which can't be controlled by applying pressure from a piece of cloth) so by applying pressure for 5 minutes from that polythene bag at my injured area I was able to stop my bleeding.

After that I started deep breathing and then I take some water and this is all about my personal experience about my personal safety which was done by me at that time.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving.There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario?

By keeping in mind the above scenario as a first responder I will give priority to keep that motorcycles secure and safe by providing immediate care before arriving of professional medical help so through a step by step procedure I will manage this scenario;

Motorcyclist assessment before professional help

• First I will ensure my safety from oncoming traffic or any hazardous material and I will be at safe side of motorcyclist.
• After that within 5 to 10 seconds I will make sure to check airways, breathing and circulation of motorcyclist.
• I will check that is there any obstruction or blockage in airway, are there breathing sound present, is there proper pulse of motorcyclist.
• After that I will immediately call to 911 which is emergency service of my country Pakistan and I will properly report about accident ,about location of accident and I will request for ambulance assistance.
• After that I will apply pressure to bleeding area by using a clothes which is clean because if I will use any contaminated clothes or gauze to stop bleeding then it can cause infection to person because pathogen can enter directly from his blood into his body.
• After that I will try to elevate leg of patient above heart level because it will help to stop bleeding in an effective way.
• Most importantly I will not move body of motorcyclist or leg of motorcyclist much frequently because it will increase circulation and will cause more bleeding.

• After that for maintaining airway or for keeping airway open I will use our technique of gentle tilting of head back and lifting chin.
• I will keep to monitor vital signs of patient through his pulse from wrist which is radial pulse.
• I will keep on noticing health of motorcycles continuously and if after 2 minutes I feel that motorcyclist have a lot of difficulty in breathing and pulse is reduced then I will start CPR with 30:2 in which there will be thirty compressions after each 2 minutes.

Handovering to medical professionals

• When I have to hand over that motorcyclist to medical professionals then definitely I will try my best to provide most precise, clear information to emergency responders about details of accident, about condition of patient and about care that I have provided personally before their arrival.

• I will help out responders to transportation to a stretcher by keeping neck and spine of the patient secure by maintaining safe posture.
• I will offer additional information and support to these professional in case of any need and for this I will offer my contact details to them.

In this way, by passing through a step by step procedure I will play my role in saving an injured motorcyclist or a life.

Above is DRABC protocol in a flowchart I have made or created by using Canva app.

D=Danger
R=Responsiveness
A=Airways
B=Breathing
C=Circulation

✅ is illustrating if something is present or positive.
❌ is illustrating if something is not present or negative.

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1Shared a personal experience from a traffic accident that effectively illustrated the importance of basic first response skills.While the experience was well-presented, including more specifics about how you assessed the severity of your bleeding and the exact steps taken to apply pressure would enhance your response. You might also want to discuss what you learned from the experience and how it informs your understanding of first response skills today. Also, the real question was what would have been different if you were a first responder yourself and how you could manage it next time after gaining knowledge of first aid.[Grade: 1.4]
Question 2Provided a clear step-by-step approach to managing a road traffic accident scenario, emphasizing the importance of assessing safety and the victim's condition.The correct sequence of the DRABC protocol has not been followed. Checking for circulation is the last step, while assessing the airway comes immediately after ensuring safety and danger. Ensure that you elaborate on the assessment process, particularly on how you would check for breathing and pulse accurately. Clarifying your thoughts on moving the casualty and discussing the rationale behind each action would strengthen your answer. Also, calling the emergency is not done by oneself; rather, ask someone from the crowd to do so. Don’t forget to add your username to the images you use in your post. Also, consider adding potential dangers in a road traffic accident and possible obstructions for airway clearance.[Grade: 1.0]
Question 3Created a flowchart of the DRABC protocol using Canva, meeting the assignment requirements and demonstrating creativity.The flowchart is good; however, adding brief descriptions for each step of the protocol could improve clarity. Ensure that the symbols used (✅ and ❌) are explained clearly in the illustration for better understanding, such as when to proceed to the next step and when to seek an alternative. Additionally, consider refining the layout for visual appeal and easier comprehension. Overall, very nice work.[Grade: 2.2]
Question 4Listed essential emergency contact numbers relevant to Pakistan, covering key services effectively.Including brief descriptions for each contact’s purpose would enhance the usefulness of your list. Furthermore, consider adding contacts for mental health support, local helplines, child abuse, women's helpline, national suicide prevention, and natural disaster rescue to improve the comprehensiveness of your emergency contacts.[Grade: 1.0]
Question 5Attempted the quiz, showing engagement with the learning material.10 out of 10 questions were correct. Excellent effort![Grade: 2.5]

General Feedback:
Your report reflects a commendable understanding of first response skills and emergency procedures. However, incorporating more specific details and following the correct sequences in your answers will enhance the clarity and effectiveness of your responses. Also, please remember to insert your username in the images you use in your post. Additionally, note that you should not invite the teacher (@huzaifanaveed1) for the homework; please keep this in mind for future assignments.

Thank you.
