what do you mean by a balanced diet?

What is a balanced diet?
A balanced diet is a food or diet that consist of all the vital elements that the body requires in their right proportion. These vital elements includes protein,carbohydrates,vitamin,minerals,fat and oil and water. A balanced diet is very important for good health and growth. It also reduces the possibilities of disease.

Do you have a balanced diet in your life?
I can not really say i have a balanced diet in my life because of how costlier food stuffs are, so i may likely afford what i really want to eat at a particular time. So i may end up taking junk food or even unbalanced food. But i usually try as much as possible to eat a balanced diet at least 3-4 times in a week.

Do you experience any adverse effects from your unhealthy diet?
Yeah i have. Few months ago i experienced effect from unhealthy diet. When our school was on strike and i decided to take a job to help me while the strike was still ongoing. I usually go there by 7:30am in the morning and close by 8:30pm in the evening. And i did not usually go with already cooked food. So i opted to eating junks foods whenever i was hungry. After about a month of working there i noticed i was getting pale and slimmer. So i went for checkup and discovered i had anaemia. The laboratory technician explain that i was not feeding well and i lacked a lot of vital nutrients. She recommended i eat a lot of vegetables and sea food like periwinkle, but since i am staying in the city and most times this vegetables are no always available, so i don't get to eat it frequently. But i ensures whenever i visit home i eat it a lot.

What should be added to your daily diet to make it balanced? Share some examples of meals that are balanced.
I think if i add more vegetables to my foods will make it more balanced. Also eating more fruits and nuts after each meals will really help.

Some examples of meals that are balanced are:

  • Porridge yam with fish and vegetable
  • Smoothie using mixed fruit and nut
  • pepper soup with rice
  • Roasted yam with vegetable sauce and fish.
