Back then in school, I think it's should be 2018, I have this good friend we shared almost everything together, one faithful day, we were asked to draw a rainbow, using poster colour, we all bought our poster colour and began the assignment after school.
He did a good a job on his drawing, it was time to exchange our rainbow drawing, he starting laughing at my drawing, I was like: what is it, is there any mistake or it not fine right." He said I used the 2 color in the drawing instead of one, I ask him to show me because I know rainbow have 7 colors which is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
He pointed at the red and green color, he said two colors are the same, at first I thought he was joking, but he looks serious so I had to called other students to join our argument, one of his sister c later came, and she explained to us that he had colour blindness which makes its difficult for him to differentiate some colours. That was the very first time I heard of colour blindness.
What is colour blindness all about, is it been blind? hell no. Colour blindness is when someone find it difficult to differentiate colour like that my friend I mentioned back in school. Do you want to know more about colour blindness? follow up my post till the end, and secondly you're highly welcome to my blog.
Write any 4 points that you know about colour blindness |

✅What I know about colour blindness is that it's makes it difficult to different some certain colours like red and green, blue and purple, or yellow and green. That doesn't mean they are blind because their overall vision is still functioning and they still have the ability to see shapes, sizes and patterns.
✅Color blindness sometimes is cause by genetics. Most cases of color blindness are inherited and caused by genetic mutations in the genes that produce color-sensitive proteins in the eye which is passed down from parents to their children. From research it's considered that men are more likely to inherit color blindness because the gene for normal color vision is located on the X chromosome and men have only one X chromosome, that's is to say there's a possibility of colour blindness if they inherit a faulty X chromosome.
✅This colour blindness comes in different types like the red-green color blindness, blue-yellow colour blindness and monochromacy. Like I said, it's affects men than women. colour blindness is not harmful, dangerous or cause any health problems is just that at some circumstances, it's can be nuisance when it come to matching colours or maybe artists might have trouble doing their jobs if they have color blindness.
Write any 3 underlying causes of colour blindness |
---|
♦️The first cause of colour blindness is mutation. What is mutation? The process whereby there's changes in DNA is know as mutation. how do the changes contribute to colour blindness? We have different genes like OPN1LW, OPN1LW, and OPN1LW which contain the instructions for making protein which helps in detecting red, blue and green light. So when there's mutation or changes in the way the protein are made, it will result in absence of the protein that is needed to detect the red, green and blue light leading to colour blindness.
♦️This one will surely surprised you, are you aware that there are some medicine we takes that can cause colour blindness? For example, this one is very common; Chloroquine, amiodarone and ethambutol, which is used to treat malaria, tuberculosis and heart arrhythmias can cause a temporary color vision loss as a side effect. But the good part of it is that it will go away when the medication is stopped.
♦️Another causes of colour blindness is the diseases and conditions that affects the retina or we can called it eye disease. A disease like retinitis pigmentosa can cause colour blindness, and it can be inherited from parents. Also, when someone is at an old aged he may suffer macular degeneration resulting in color vision problem or colour blindness.
Can a severe colour blindness leads to complete vision loss?(Is it a myth or truth, justify your answer) |
---|
It's a myth, colour blindness doesn't result in a complete vision loss because it only affects the ability to see and differentiate colour. For example let's assume you're outside looking at a tree, you can see how big the tree is,the branches, the trunk and the leave but you can't tell whether the leave of the tree is green or yellow, either the trunk is brown or green, but you can see the full shape of the tree. That's how colour blindness is, you can see everything around you but you may find it hard to differentiate the colour around you.
In conclusion, colour blindness is a condition that makes it difficult to differentiate colour, and it's cause by genetics, mutation and old aged. colour blindness doesn't result in complete vision loss. Thank you all for reading.

Oh, wow so Chloroquine can cause colour Blindness, I am just learning that now.
I keep telling people that color blindness can not in anyway cause total vision loss but they keep laughing at me and making me feel less of myself thereby questioning my education, thank God I have this as an evidence.
Best of luck my friend.
