My grandfather who has a history of cardiac problems and I were at home alone one day. His left side began to ache sharply all of a sudden. His face was showing signs of discomfort and I could tell he needed assistance right now. Despite my racing heart I knew it was important to remain composed. Despite my anxiety I recalled the recommendation to provide aspirin in these circumstances. In the hopes that it would lessen the agony I promptly located a 300 mg aspirin and made sure he took it. I kept a close eye on him after giving him the aspirin closely monitoring any changes. Assuring him that assistance was on its way I made an effort to keep him as comfortable as possible.
I knew it was imperative to call for an ambulance but right then my Making sure he didn't feel terrified or alone was the top goal. While we waited for medical assistance to arrive I spoke softly and held a steady hand on his shoulder telling him to take slow breaths. I was somewhat relieved that the aspirin was able to lessen his discomfort. In retrospect I saw how critical it was to understand fundamental first reaction techniques such as identifying heart trouble symptoms and knowing how to react. I learned from that day how crucial it is to maintain composure and be ready for anything especially when taking care of loved ones. I may have had a completely different outcome if I had panicked.
Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario? |

Walking back home I see a car and motorcycle accident and the motorcyclist is lying on the road motionless. I notice some blood coming from his leg and he seems unconscious. My first thought is to check if it is safe to approach him making sure there is no traffic around that could put me or anyone else in danger. Once I know it’s safe I carefully get closer to see if he breathing and if he has any obvious injuries that need attention.I quickly assess his condition first checking his breathing by watching his chest and feeling for any airflow. Thankfully he breathing but he still unconscious. Next I take a closer look at his bleeding leg and try to control it by pressing a clean cloth I find nearby on the wound to slow down the bleeding. I also ask a bystander to call an ambulance immediately giving them details about the accident and his condition. While waiting for help I continue applying pressure to the wound trying to keep the man calm even though he not fully aware. I speak reassuringly just in case he can hear and make sure he stays still avoiding any movement that might worsen his injuries.

When the ambulance arrives I briefly explain what happened and what I did to help. Knowing some basic first aid gives me confidence to assist knowing it might make a real difference.I apply a fresh cloth I locate close by to the cut to stop the bleeding. I also request that a bystander phone an ambulance right away, providing them with information about the accident and the person health. I maintain applying pressure to the wound while I wait for assistance attempting to calm the man despite his lack of consciousness. I talk in a soothing voice in case he can hear me and I make sure he doesn't move in any way that could aggravate his wounds. I provide a quick explanation of what happened and what I did to aid when the ambulance arrives. Being able to provide basic first aid gives me the courage to help since I know it might truly make a difference.
