What are the main blood types and how do we know which one we have?
There are 4 main blood groups (types of blood) – A, B, AB and O. Your blood group is determined by the genes you inherit from your parents. Each group can be either RhD positive or RhD negative, which means in total there are 8 blood groups. the way we can know our blood types is to go see a doctor.
Why is it important to know our blood type?
personal health: this means an individual should know his or health status , because when we know our health status we know the kind of drugs that is suitable for our body without reacting on us.
medical emergency: knowing your blood type is in the event of a medical emergency, where you may be in need of a blood transfusion.
organ transplant: knowing our blood type is important, because if we ever need a organ transplant ,it must be matched to avoid a rejection.
How do blood types affect our health and why do they matter in medical treatment?
Of the eight main blood types, people with Type O have the lowest risk for heart attacks and blood clots in the legs and lungs. This may be because people with other blood types have higher levels of certain clotting factors, which are proteins that cause blood to coagulate (solidify). Like the blood type A, has a high risk of heart disease, but individual with O have the lower risk of evolving blood globs.
The importance of blood type in medical treatment lies in the potential for adverse reactions during blood transfusions. for example,if a person with blood types O receives from a patient that is A or B their immune system may produce antibodies against the A which could be lead to dangerous immune response.
Why are some people considered to be a universal blood donors while others can from only a few?
This is because individual with O is seen as universal blood donors ,as they they do not have the A or B antigens on their red blood cells. it is said that their blood can be accepted by any body .
For emergency transfusions, blood group type O negative blood is the variety of blood that has the lowest risk of causing serious reactions for most people who receive it. Because of this, it's sometimes called the universal blood donor type.
People with type O- blood are called universal donors because their donated red blood cells,
have no A, B or Rh antigens and can therefore be safely given to the patient. someone that is O blood type cannot receive blood from A,B orAB it's only people with same O blood type that is why is called universal donor.
