INTRODUCTION

Alcohol is a type of drink that people consume these days for different reasons, like celebrating, socializing, or enjoying the taste. Alcohol is found in almost every packed and canned food mostly as a preservative. Alcohol is also found in beverages like beer, wine, and spirits.

When alcohol is consumed, it goes into the user's bloodstream impacting the brain, which makes users feel relaxed, and happy, or lose their thinking. Regardless, alcohol is said to have both positive and negative effects, and it is on this note that I'll be discussing today's contest topic using the hints as my guide.

When can we say that a person is an alcoholic? Give reasons for your answer

Although I don't drink alcohol, the use of alcohol has never been proven to be a bad thing, but only when it is used in excess. Therefore, one can say that a person using alcohol is an alcoholic when the user has a strong and uncontrollable desire to drink alcohol, and it starts to negatively impact their life because they are now taking it in excess.

Alcohol is also said to be of good use in some ways, like helping people feel relaxed and have fun with friends or family. It is also said to be used in moderation to improve the taste of certain foods and as a preservative in others. Studies also suggest that moderate use of alcohol may have potential health benefits for users, such as improving heart health.

However, when certain characteristics are seen in a person, they might be considered as an alcoholic, characters such as;

• Alcohol Dependence (addiction):

This involves a person having a strong and constant urge to drink alcohol, hence finding it difficult to stop or control their drinking once they start.

• Withdrawal symptoms:

This involves persons who use alcohol experiencing physical and emotional signs like shaking, sweating, or anxiety when they try to stop drinking.

• Neglecting responsibilities:

We can consider someone an alcoholic when they start neglecting their work, family, or other important obligations because their focus is mainly on drinking alcohol.

• Continued drinking despite negative consequences:

Any person who keeps on drinking even when alcohol causes problems in their relationships, health, or other areas of life, is an alcoholic.

Do you think alcohol is a drug? justify your answer!

To justify my answer, I would like us to know the meaning of what a drug is. Here are two definitions I would like us to look at;

A drug is any chemical substance that affects the functioning of living things and the organisms (such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses) that infect them. britannica

(3) Drug is any substance other than food intended to affect the structure or function of the body merriam-webster

From the above definitions, we've seen that any substance other than food that we take into our body that affects the functioning of the body is termed a drug. Therefore, alcohol is a drug as it has the power to affect the functioning of the body and mind.

However, like all drugs, it has a good side and a bad side which are usually associated with excessive use or by abusing it's use, just like every other drug.

Can alcoholism be considered a disease? How to control it!

Yes, 100%. For me, I consider alcoholism as a disease, because alcoholism is when someone becomes dependent on alcohol and can't control their drinking anymore. However, if someone finds him/herself in such a situation, hopefully, you can control this habit by applying the following steps;

• Acknowledging the problem:

This involves the user admitting that he/she has a problem with alcohol. This is the first step, as it takes courage to admit that fact once fallen into alcoholism.

• Seek support:

Once you've acknowledged that you're drawn to alcohol, it is okay to reach out to friends, family, or support groups who can offer insight and guidance, as they can provide you with emotional support and help you find resources for treatment.

• Getting professional help:

This involves talking to a healthcare professional, like a doctor or consultant, who specializes in addiction as they can provide personalized advice and recommend treatment options.

Is every drinker considered an alcoholic?

Edited using Pixellab App

No, not every drinker is to be considered an alcoholic as most people can use alcohol at a moderate level without experiencing adverse effects. In the first hint, I explained what alcoholism is all about, that alcoholism is used to describe people who abuse the use of alcohol, resulting in negative outcomes on the person's physical health, mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.

An alcoholic is someone who is addicted to the use of alcohol, it involves a compulsive need to drink alcohol and the inability to control or stop drinking despite the negative effects it has on them.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, alcohol use can have both positive and negative effects, however, excessive alcohol consumption can lead to harmful effects, such as addiction, and negative impacts on physical and mental health.

Greetings @sahmie, you created a lovely publication.

Although I don't drink alcohol, the use of alcohol has never been proven to be a bad thing, but only when it is used in excess.

It's important to note that all things have both the good and bad side. Alcohol is indeed harmful, whether taken in buts or in excess, that's the hard truth which is not told often to the public.

So, it is safe to say excessive use of alcohol is abusive and could be seen as someone being addicted. This leads to the effect of alcoholism. However, taking it in bits and controlling it keeps you off this phase of alcoholism, but this doesn't change the fact that it is harmful, just on a much slower rate which it's consumer could never live long enough to see it's full repercussions.

Good luck with this entry

Greetings brother, indeed alcohol is a substance I don't even want to taste, from a 1 time experience, I was able to confirm that its not for me. My body system doesn't rhythm at all with it.

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.

hey @sahmie dear I appreciate your perspective on alcohol use, emphasizing moderation as a key factor in its impact on individuals. Your distinction between responsible use and the potential issues arising from excess consumption, leading to the term "alcoholic," is well-articulated. It's crucial to recognize the spectrum of alcohol use and its potential effects on one's life. best wishes

Thank you for your wonderful contribution, it made me happy knowing how you feel about it. Thank you

As good as alcohol may seem to be and used by many during relaxation hours it's negative side cannot be undertooked. It has a lot of health damages when not consumed with moderation.

Controlling involves many steps especially seeking support from family, friends and health professionals as you've mentioned. One can't get through the addiction with proper handling and support from others.

Bottom line is not to misuse it's purpose

Thanks for sharing with us and good luck in the

Greetings friend, thats true... With the numerous goods alcohol can bring to us, it still gets abused and like every other good drugs when abused it comes with detrimental effects, therefore we have to be watchful..

Me gusto mucho tu publicación. Suerte en el concurso.

Hasta la próxima...

If a problem is kept silent, it causes more and more damage. The worse is when we see the problem but cant admit it is a problem to us, this is what alcoholism do to alcoholics, they don't see drinking alcohol as a problem but rather an enjoyment even on their drunken state.

"Well said! Controlling alcoholism requires a holistic approach—professional help, a strong support network, and lifestyle changes. How do you incorporate these elements into your journey?"

Greetings friend, like every other addiction, controlling alcoholism can be a though one, hence I believe abstinence is a much better option. Thank you for your support.

Master what you have written is 100% true, is not all that drink alcohol our truncus drunker and also alcohol is a disease to those that are addicted to it, which people should find health in a counseling Centre and hospitals, best wishes dear.

Lol... I wonder why you called me master, makes look a drunken master. Please, I'm no master, not in this term or any other. However, thank you for making out time to not only read but also leave a comment.

Sorry for that word master, it was just a joke

Getting support and professional help is one of the best way to control alcoholism. I will add that there should be more enlightenment on the need to stay away from excessive intake of alcohol to the younger ones.

Good writeup, I learned a lot from this post.

Greetings friend, thank you for this supportive comment, truly those are some helpful ways one can use to overcome alcoholism. When they admit they are adicts and seek help. The difficult part is them admitting that they are alcoholics as to them, it is only enjoyment.

Loved the post!

Alcohol is no doubt a drug because it has certain similarities with other drugs marijuana and cocaine. Alcohol when taking excessively makes its users to feel like they're on top of the world and this also affects their overall mental and physical performance.

Thank you so much for sharing this post.

Greetings brother, you've made a good list of drugs in the category of alcohol... But do you know that all these drugs mentioned were actually created for good use or are still used for good use? Yes they are, and like alcohol it starts with wanting more, more and more.

Informative sharing keep showing interest in weekly contests.

Hey friend @sahmie

That's right, drinking alcohol is not bad, it is bad when it is done in excess. It is incredible how a person who is alcoholic depends so much on it, making him/her paranoid and aggressive if the person is not able to consume it.

That is why it is also considered a chronic drug, since the person gets so addicted to it that in most cases they do everything possible and impossible to consume alcohol just for the sensation that this effect produces in the body.

Friend as always you do a great and striking post, both grammatically and illustratively, I wish you much success, be well ....

Alcohol is indeed a spirit, and even in the medical line, spirits are put into good use like stabilizing apparatus and even the human system. However, it affects the brain when it's done in excess like every other drugs, when this happens, you keep asking for more. That's is why abstinence is the best route out of alcoholism. Thank you for your time.

Although it is bad for our health, most people in cold countries drink alcohol. However, excessive consumption is harmful to our bodies.

This is very true, as it has the tendency to warm up the body from within, however the starts when a user doesn't know when to stop, this way even in their drunken state, they are still willing to drink more.

🌻

It's high time people understand that high consumption of alcohol isn't good for thier health

Feliz noche amigo🙏

Greetings friend, the creation of dependency is not only on some users, its on all users who keeps using it over time, as it is a drug, much like the marijuana, which medical declared to be medicine when taken over time becomes a danger to human health. This goes on to show that excess of anything and everything is bad.

Greetings friend, yes it is true that little consumption of alcohol is not bad for the health, however alcoholism or alcoholics do not start in a day. Little by little, our body get used to it, then it starts wanting more, this is how alcoholics and alcoholism are created. Therefore, it is better we stay away from the start.

Hello @sahmie

Alcohol is indeed a drug and taking it in bits or excess has negative effect on the body of the individual. It took take a while but it eventually has negative effect. Solution to alcoholism indeed needs you to acknowledge the problem, seeking support from relevant agencies and getting professional help at your disposal. Success in the challenge my dear friend.

Greetings friend, it is very that no matter the quantity of alcohol we take, its going to leave its effect on us, it happens with every other drug too. Thank you for this support comment.
