Some people call it stroke while some call it paralysis.

Well ever since I was a little child, have been seeing people around not being able to do things on their own. But I thank God none of this has happen in my family before.

But let's check out what paralysis is all about and what it's stands for. Thanks to @khursheedanwar for coming up with this contest topic because I will be learning a lot about it.

What is paralysis?

Paralysis are condition characterized by the incapability to move or feel some part of the body. It can come from damage to the nervous system, mainly the spinal cord, brain, or nerves which control movement of muscle. Paralysis could be temporary or permanent, partial or complete, and can have affect on one or more limbs or some areas of the body.

There are different types of paralysis, which are categorized based on the affected parts of the or the underlying cause. Some common types of paralysis include:

  • Monoplegia: paralysis which affects one limb, which are arm or leg.

  • Hemiplegia: paralysis which affects one side of the body, mainly as a result of a stroke.

  • Paraplegia: paralysis which affects both the legs and possibly the lower body, usually caused by injuries in the spinal cord.

  • Quadriplegia: paralysis which affects all four limbs and likely the torso, coming from severe spinal cord injuries or conditions such as cerebral palsy.

How long it takes to recover from paralysis?

The recovery from paralysis could differ greatly depending on their cause and deepness of the condition. Some people might experience partial or full recovery over time with the use physical therapy, medication, and other means of treatment. In any cases of permanent paralysis, individuals can put into consideration the use of artificial devices which are wheelchairs or braces to be independence and improve the quality of their life.

It is hard to know the length of time it will take for an individual to get up from the bed of paralysis. The process of recovery could be slow and at the same time challenging, which needs patience, perseverance, and also support from professional in the health-care department, friends, and as well family members. It is essential for individuals who are living with paralysis to be steadfast on their physical and emotional well-being, set beneficial goals, and look after good care and resources to promote quick recovery process.
