On Friday morning I spotted a Hairy Woodpecker (Dryobates villosus) in my Indian Magic Crab Apple tree. By the time I got to the camera to snap a picture the woodpecker it was already going after a peanut in my bird feeder.
The Hairy Woodpecker looks nearly identical to a Downy Woodpecker. The most noticeable difference I use to identify the Hairy Woodpecker is that the Hairy Woodpecker is larger than the Downy Woodpecker.

Hello @etcmike that is to say that if the two are the same size it is more difficult to differentiate them… Have a happy start to the week.

How about @etcmike, good shot of the woodpecker, apparently there is little fluency of birds at this time.
