Magandang buhay! I have come across to the contest organized by @steemitphcurator this week which is to share some of our Filipino food. I was very excited because I will get to share to you some of my favorites, and in fact I have a lot in mind. But let me begin first with the Bulalo. Hmm, I’m craving while writing this specially now in this cold weather.

It was just recently when me and my colleagues went to a nearby restaurant in our area after a tiring school activity for a sumptuous dinner, sort of rewarding ourselves for working so hard. After arriving at a restaurant, we ordered foods and one of them is the Bulalo. On that day it was cold and drizzling outside, so we agreed to include a bowl of hot soup for our order, and we chose Bulalo. Perfect for the type of weather!

Bulalo is a popular Filipino dish which is native to the Southern part of Luzon. It is a Filipino stew and a light-colored soup that is made by cooking beef shanks and marrow bones until the fat has melted into the clear broth.

Bulalo typically includes leafy vegetables like pechay and cabbage, both are my favorites. I love it when it is served with a lot of these. Yes, I love leafy vegetables. It also includes corn on the cob, garlic, ginger, and onions. Other vegetables can also be added, it actually depends on the cook on what vegies he wants to add to make it more tasty.

There are actually similar dishes of Bulalo in other parts of the Philippines. Here in Cebu, we called it "Pochero". And many Cebuanos loved it specially when the meat of the beef is tender and is easily chewed. In fact, most Cebuanos will pair it with “mais”, well it is basically a rice but it’s different to the usual rice. I don’t know what it is in Tagalog, but it is a perfect combination.

Meanwhile, me and my colleagues here were very hungry that each of us asked for extra plates of rice. It was actually funny because we also tried to ask for an additional bowl of soup of the Bulalo without meat, for free, but the restaurant couldn’t give us because that’s not allowed. Well, at least we tried. Haha.
